This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take ownership of and develop the technical roadmap for the Financial Risk Engineering team.
• Serve as the integral link among engineering, product development, compliance, fraud prevention, and data science.
• Remain actively involved in the codebase, contribute to architectural decisions, and help the team overcome obstacles.
• Build and nurture a team operating within a complex fraud and risk landscape.
• Collaborate with data science and analytics to transform fraud indicators into impactful systems.
• Influence the integration of AI tools within the team, focusing on incident investigations and code reviews.
• Lead the team responsible for Wealthsimple's fraud detection and response strategies.
• Proven experience in managing engineering teams with the technical expertise to make direct contributions.
• Ability to make decisions involving significant trade-offs and navigate ambiguity effectively.
• Strong history of collaborating with product, compliance, data science, and other non-engineering departments.
• Capability to articulate technical and risk-related trade-offs to various stakeholders.
• Comfortable engaging with the codebase as necessary.
• Familiarity with streaming technologies like Apache Flink, Apache Spark, or Kafka (preferred).
• Data engineering experience with large datasets and real-time systems (preferred).
• Background in risk or payments (preferred).
• Experience collaborating closely with analytics or data science teams (preferred).
• Full-stack development experience with React and backend languages/frameworks (preferred).
• Legally authorized to work in Canada.
• Permanent resident in Canada.
