Director of Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead and expand Karat’s engineering organization based in India.

• Report directly to the Vice President of Engineering while collaborating with engineering leaders and teams based in the United States.

• Take ownership of engineering delivery across multiple product areas and features, overseeing the process from technical approach to launch and ongoing operation.

• Spearhead the design and development of enterprise workflows and self-service hubs that facilitate the hiring process.

• Deliver key initiatives such as the HM Experience App, Recruiter Hub, ATS integrations, candidate funnel management, and post-interview decision-making portals.

• Improve delivery operations tools, messaging and notifications infrastructure, cost-saving initiatives, and payment operations.

• Identify and implement emerging technologies, including AI-assisted workflows, to enhance Karat’s interviewing platform and technical assessment capabilities.

• Cultivate senior technical talent and engineering managers.

• Foster local leadership and assign product and feature ownership across teams.

• Establish effective working relationships among teams in India and globally, ensuring all employees collaborate as one cohesive company.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• At least 5 years of management experience.

• Proven track record of shipping and operating customer-facing, hosted SaaS software products in production; this is a mandatory requirement.

• Strong technical expertise and experience in AI-driven technologies.

• Capability to contribute to architecture and design reviews, code reviews, and make significant technical trade-offs.

• Experience leading the complete software development lifecycle for customer-facing products.

• Background in hiring, coaching, and managing performance for engineers.

• Experience managing engineering managers is highly preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to nurture senior engineering leaders and delegate responsibilities in product, technical, and people leadership.

• Proven history of enhancing engineering culture, development processes, and technical systems while balancing delivery, platform health, reliability, security, and technical debt.

• Experience working with geographically distributed teams, ideally collaborating between India and U.S.-based engineering organizations.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Must be located in Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), India.
