Senior Engineering Manager – Software Engineering, Security Research

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina.

📋 Description

• Serve as a player-coach manager for Software Engineering and Security Research Engineering.

• Recruit, onboard, manage performance, facilitate career development, and supervise delivery.

• Drive the transformation of threat research and shared data capabilities into production detections and customer features.

• Collaborate directly with engineers and researchers on validation, design decisions, and production challenges.

• Oversee the process from research hypothesis through evaluation, implementation, release, and ongoing detection quality.

• Define the research agenda in partnership with Product and engineering leadership.

• Validate evidence, evaluate coverage gaps, and assess production readiness.

• Work in collaboration on services, APIs, detection integration, testing, and production troubleshooting.

• Establish detection evaluation and regression testing; monitor false positives, missed threats, coverage, and production behavior.

• Set research objectives and evaluation criteria, establishing commitments for implementation.

• Plan delivery with Product utilizing defined interfaces, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and capacity.

• Coordinate data access, interfaces, and reliability with Platform Engineering while upholding customer-data access boundaries.

• Guide product and detection design to leverage shared evidence, relationships, and history across customer workflows.

• Cultivate technical leads and independent ownership, adjusting team structure as growth occurs.

• Address customer escalations and production issues requiring engineering and research expertise.

• Assist AI-enhanced engineering and research with evaluation and review of outcomes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience leading the development of SaaS products and/or products built on shared data platforms.

• Direct management experience in threat intelligence, threat research, detection engineering, or vulnerability research teams contributing to a production security product.

• Experience directing software engineering delivery and managing technical contributors across engineering and research domains.

• Track record of translating research findings into deployed capabilities, including validation, testing, deployment, and ongoing quality enhancement.

• Technical expertise in software engineering and threat research, encompassing architecture, detection methods, and data quality.

• Experience overseeing hiring, performance management, and career development for a multidisciplinary team.

• Capability to navigate research uncertainty while maintaining clear delivery expectations and balancing exploration with customer obligations.

• Proficiency in documenting decisions and coordinating delivery across engineering and research in a remote team setting.

• Openness to learning and applying AI-augmented engineering and research methodologies.

• Familiarity with external threat intelligence, phishing, malicious domains, impersonation, or adversarial infrastructure analysis is advantageous.

• Experience in developing technical leads and expanding delegated ownership as the team evolves is beneficial.

• Background in software development, particularly with Python or Go, is a plus.

• Knowledge of cloud services, event-driven systems, graph-based analysis, or evaluating ML-assisted detections is advantageous.

• Experience using AI development or research tools with measurable quality controls may be beneficial.

• Understanding of engineering principles related to Go, Python, Event Hubs, Kafka-compatible messaging, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Explorer, PostgreSQL, Neo4j, Redis, Databricks, Kubernetes, and Azure-managed compute services.
