Manager, Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead a team of infrastructure engineers tasked with managing compute, storage, network, data container, and cloud platform services.

• Provide daily oversight, guidance, and performance development for engineering personnel.

• Set team objectives and manage resource distribution effectively.

• Take ownership of lifecycle management for both physical and virtual infrastructure.

• Ensure high availability, security, and performance through effective monitoring, automation, and capacity planning.

• Lead efforts in patching, upgrades, performance tuning, and optimizing infrastructure.

• Design a forward-thinking hybrid architecture in collaboration with Enterprise Architecture.

• Supervise hybrid cloud infrastructure operations encompassing IaaS, PaaS, and container platforms.

• Enhance team capabilities in AWS and Azure.

• Collaborate with DevOps on orchestration and control-plane systems across on-premises and cloud environments.

• Oversee cloud tenancy configurations, landing zones, and resource governance.

• Advocate for infrastructure-as-code and configuration-as-code methodologies.

• Manage enterprise networking services, including routing, switching, load balancing, DNS/DHCP, VPNs, and firewall integration.

• Ensure connectivity among data centers, cloud environments, branch offices, and remote endpoints.

• Assist in network troubleshooting and optimization efforts.

• Maintain relationships with vendors for network modifications.

• Collaborate with application engineering, DevOps, and production operations teams.

• Provide infrastructure support for deployments, migrations, and production cutovers.

• Engage in incident response and root cause analysis as an escalation point for infrastructure issues.

• Uphold platform engineering standards, documentation, and operational runbooks.

• Support vendor selection, contract evaluations, and third-party service delivery.

• Align infrastructure practices with governance, security, and compliance mandates.

• Facilitate governance, internal audit, and external audit processes.

• Oversee the deployment, scaling, and management of data container platforms and data virtualization engines.

• Ensure reliability, performance, security, orchestration, registry management, and runtime policies for containerized environments.

• Define configuration standards, monitoring practices, and automation pipelines for containerized data platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent experience in an enterprise technology setting.

• Minimum of 10+ years supporting computer systems at scale in both server and end-user environments.

• At least 6+ years of experience supporting enterprise-scale server environments in both on-premises and cloud settings.

• A minimum of 2+ years in a supervisory capacity.

• Extensive expertise in distributed systems.

• Familiarity with physical and virtual infrastructure, server environments, storage arrays, hypervisors, networking components, hybrid cloud, IaaS, PaaS, and container platforms.

• Proficiency in AWS and Azure.

• Knowledge of orchestration and control-plane systems.

• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration-as-code practices.

• Understanding of routing, switching, load balancing, DNS/DHCP, VPNs, and firewall integration.

• Awareness of SOX, NIST, and CIS benchmarks.

• Experience with data container platforms, SQL Server, Cloudbase, orchestration, registry management, runtime policies, and Delphix.

• Capability to manage off-hour and emergency escalations.

• No specific certifications are mandatory; however, listed certifications are beneficial but not required.
