Manager, People Systems Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the technical strategy and long-term architecture for the People technology ecosystem, which includes Workday, Docebo, Greenhouse, integrations, employee data, automation, AI, and emerging capabilities.

• Guide, mentor, and develop the People Systems Engineering team.

• Act as the technical authority for Workday, ensuring it is well-architected, maintainable, secure, scalable, and effectively utilized.

• Collaborate with the Product Manager for People Systems to transform employee and business challenges into product and technical strategies and roadmaps.

• Assess the People technology landscape and streamline, consolidate, redesign, automate, or eliminate processes as necessary.

• Set architectural boundaries across People platforms, APIs, integrations, custom applications, automation, and AI.

• Formulate the technical strategy for People data, encompassing sources, models, boundaries, contracts, quality, lineage, access, and lifecycle management.

• Propel an API-first and event-driven People Systems ecosystem.

• Define the AI and agentification strategy for employee technology.

• Implement automation in recruiting, onboarding, employee changes, compensation, learning, talent management, and offboarding.

• Introduce software engineering practices such as source control, peer review, CI/CD, environment management, observability, reusable components, documentation, and disciplined releases.

• Create an automated testing strategy and enhance observability across workflows, integrations, scheduled processes, and data flows.

• Establish engineering standards for Workday configuration and extensibility.

• Manage technical health, architectural debt, fragile integrations, customizations, obsolete processes, and operational challenges.

• Collaborate with Integration Engineering, AI & Automation, Data, Identity, Security, and other engineering teams.

• Review emerging technologies and guide experiments toward production implementation.

• Balance roadmap delivery with modernization, reliability, security, sustainability, and the reduction of technical debt.

• Conduct architecture reviews, establish technical standards, and define engineering metrics.

• Communicate technical strategies, architectural decisions, investment requirements, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders and senior leadership.

• Recruit, onboard, mentor, and train engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of experience in enterprise application engineering, software engineering, HR technology, systems architecture, or related technical fields.

• More than 2 years of experience managing or leading technical teams formally.

• Strong hands-on technical expertise in Workday, including its architecture, data model, security model, business processes, integrations, reporting, and extensibility.

• Proven experience in defining technical strategies or architectures.

• Strong systems thinking capabilities across applications, integrations, APIs, data, identity, automation, infrastructure, and employee experiences.

• Experience in delineating boundaries between SaaS configuration, platform extensibility, integrations, automation, and custom software development.

• Proficient in designing or evolving enterprise data architecture, including systems of record, data models, interfaces, data contracts, quality, governance, and downstream consumption.

• Familiarity with modern software engineering practices in enterprise SaaS or business systems environments.

• Experience with testing strategy and automation, CI/CD, observability, release engineering, or similar practices.

• Knowledge of contemporary AI capabilities and practical applications of agents, LLMs, and intelligent automation.

• Experience partnering with Product Managers on product strategy, customer needs, technical strategy, roadmaps, and investment decisions.

• Ability to challenge legacy processes and architectures while developing practical modernization strategies.

• Capability to navigate both strategic architecture and detailed technical discussions.

• Strong understanding of security, privacy, access control, auditability, and data protection for sensitive employee data.

• Exceptional analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.

• Experience with related People platforms such as Docebo, Greenhouse, or similar technologies is advantageous.

• Experience with Workday Studio, Workday Extend, Workday APIs, cloud platforms, event-driven architectures, AI/agent platforms, or modern automation frameworks is highly desirable.
