This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Oversee and enhance Chainalysis's US payroll and global Employer of Record operations.
• Administer payroll activities across various countries, employee groups, payroll systems, and external providers.
• Take responsibility for payroll schedules, input deadlines, funding readiness, processing timelines, review procedures, approvals, and escalation pathways.
• Execute or evaluate regular and off-cycle payrolls, termination calculations, onboarding of new hires, employee changes, and other payroll-related events.
• Analyze payroll inputs and data streams from HRIS, benefits, equity, retirement, timekeeping, and associated systems; facilitate the resolution of exceptions.
• Oversee payroll tax administration and compliance tasks, including notifications, registrations, account access, tax-rate adjustments, filings, payments, and reconciliations.
• Manage relationships with payroll, EOR, tax, and other service providers, focusing on service quality, issue resolution, escalations, and follow-up actions.
• Review payroll outcomes, provider deliverables, funding requirements, exception items, and invoices in accordance with Finance controls.
• Investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, coordinate corrections, and escalate significant risks.
• Directly supervise Payroll Specialists by setting goals, distributing workloads, providing coaching, feedback, performance management, and supporting career development.
• Establish expectations for ownership, communication, documentation, quality, timeliness, confidentiality, and escalation procedures.
• Collaborate with People, Equity, Controllership, Finance, and senior stakeholders to resolve issues, communicate updates, and enhance processes.
• Develop scalable operating practices through documentation, cross-training, backup coverage, process improvement, and technology integration.
• A minimum of five years of relevant payroll experience, demonstrating substantial US payroll ownership and proven leadership or transformation capabilities.
• Prior experience in people management, including coaching, workload allocation, performance feedback, and employee development.
• Practical experience in processing US payroll, ideally using ADP Workforce Now or a similar payroll platform.
• Familiarity with global EOR or multi-country payroll operations, including managing vendor relationships and payroll reviews.
• Solid understanding of US payroll tax administration, filings, payments, state registrations, tax notifications, tax rates, and payroll compliance mandates.
• Experience in managing payroll feeds or integrations involving systems such as Workday, benefits platforms, retirement providers, or other HR and payroll technologies.
• Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to research, resolve, and articulate complex payroll issues.
• Excellent skills in cross-functional collaboration with People, Equity, Controllership, Finance, vendors, and senior stakeholders.
• Proven ownership of process improvement, documentation, controls, and operational scaling.
• Exceptional judgment, discretion, organization, written communication, and attention to detail.
• Experience utilizing AI to optimize processes and drive innovation.
• Payroll certification such as CPP or an international equivalent is preferred.
• Experience in establishing cross-training, backup coverage, and succession planning within a payroll team.
• Experience in a high-growth, global, or rapidly evolving organization.
