This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +5 more states.
• Oversee and cultivate a varied portfolio of donors and prospects ranging from $25,000 to $100,000+
• Increase sustainable annual revenue from $1 million to a target of $2-3 million
• Attract new major donors through networking, events, trips, membership donors, and research initiatives
• Provide stewardship for the donors within the portfolio
• Design, implement, and lead donor engagement initiatives such as project visits, fishing trips, and dinners
• Identify, evaluate, and enhance donor relationships in collaboration with operations, development leadership, and major gifts team
• Monitor performance using metrics and annual revenue targets
• Assist senior leadership with frontline fundraising efforts
• Offer fundraising strategies, talking points, and materials for donor cultivation and solicitation
• Articulate Trout Unlimited’s mission and value proposition to potential donors
• Provide guidance on proposals and reports, including detailed budgets, in collaboration with communications, program, and finance colleagues
• Identify planned giving prospects and execute current and deferred giving strategies, including growth of the endowment
• Keep updated on best practices in fundraising and relevant changes in federal and state tax laws
• Work collaboratively across program, development, and operations teams to ensure revenue transparency and accountability
• Assist with events, board meetings, and other developmental initiatives
• Maintain precise donor records
• Travel approximately 2-3 nights per month
• Report to the Senior Director of Principal and Major Gifts
• Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in nonprofit individual major gifts fundraising (or equivalent relevant experience)
• Proven experience managing a portfolio of 80 or more donors simultaneously
• Demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding six- and seven-figure contributions
• Skills in developing strategies for donor cultivation and solicitation
• Experience or familiarity with planned giving and endowment campaigns
• Successful history of working remotely with colleagues distributed across the country
• Strong commitment to the mission and values of Trout Unlimited; passion for angling is preferred
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and confidence in direct donor interactions, including sensitive discussions regarding personal and family finances
• Excellent writing and public speaking abilities
• Capacity to navigate complex organizational dynamics involving multiple stakeholders
• Knowledge of and commitment to utilizing fundraising databases, especially Salesforce and WealthEngine
• High degree of discretion and respect for donor confidentiality
• Initiative, independence, and ability to collaborate effectively within a team
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Willingness and ability to travel, ideally located near an airport with connections to major western cities
• Physical ability to walk on uneven terrain for extended periods at conservation and restoration locations
