This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Uphold the artistic vision and quality standards.
• Collaborate with Leads and fellow Lighting Artists to develop high-quality lighting designs that align with the project's universe and visual aesthetics.
• Illuminate scenes, levels, and cinematics utilizing reference photographs and/or concept art.
• Enhance narrative storytelling through the thoughtful use of color, light, and atmosphere.
• Produce lighting work that adheres to creative and technical briefs while meeting deadlines.
• Engage in reviews and incorporate feedback from leads and colleagues.
• Take part in R&D initiatives to investigate new techniques and enhance pipelines and workflows.
• Work collaboratively with developers across various disciplines and integrate your contributions into the project build.
• Balance visual fidelity with game performance requirements.
• Review and test work both in the editor and during gameplay.
• A minimum of 3 years in AAA console/PC game development, including at least 1 year working with Unreal Engine.
• A robust portfolio demonstrating expertise in world and local lighting.
• Capability to artistically interpret concepts and creatively extend beyond initial ideas.
• A strong grasp of traditional art fundamentals and design principles: shape, form, texture, value, and color.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Physically Based Rendering workflows.
• Familiarity with the performance constraints and opportunities of current-generation consoles.
• Proficiency in creating lighting assets, including textures, IES profiles, HDR maps, materials, and scripts.
• Understanding of basic photography principles such as EV, shutter speed, ISO, and composition.
• Openness to receiving and implementing feedback.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new artistic styles, techniques, and workflows.
• Ability to collaborate with department leads and across different teams to address artistic and technical challenges.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Preferred qualifications: a degree in any art-related field, knowledge of photography, strong Unreal Engine skills, and familiarity with Renderman, V-Ray, or Arnold, along with breakdown/work-in-progress images.
