This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Lead a team of engineers and designers in the modification and upgrading of substations.
β’ Develop calculations, document designs, and prepare specifications to meet client requirements and facilitate reviews.
β’ Establish relaying philosophies and select appropriate relay, control, and communications equipment.
β’ Create SCADA and telecommunications concepts along with their configurations.
β’ Supervise I/O assignments and connection diagrams.
β’ Assist engineers and designers in their protection and controls engineering design tasks.
β’ Coordinate detailed design phases across various engineering disciplines.
β’ Investigate, troubleshoot, and provide solutions for engineering challenges.
β’ Analyze and design single-line, A.C. schematic, and D.C. schematic diagrams.
β’ Prepare engineering studies for review by clients and peers.
β’ Conduct independent reviews of calculations and drawings produced by others.
β’ Collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, and suppliers to ensure designs are complete and timely.
β’ Evaluate existing facilities and recommend necessary upgrades and replacements.
β’ Present findings and recommendations to clients and colleagues.
β’ Engage in peer learning and knowledge-sharing within Communities of Practice.
β’ Mentor junior engineers.
β’ Travel may be required to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for construction coordination and field verification.
β’ A Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree is required.
β’ At least 10 years of experience specializing in protection, control, and telecommunications for high-voltage substations, including design, installation, and coordination.
β’ A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
β’ Experience acting as a liaison between the firm and clients in a supportive or leading engineering role.
β’ Proven ability in writing and supporting documentation for relay calculations.
β’ Familiarity with design techniques, tools, and principles related to technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
β’ Proficiency in software such as SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, CDEGS, or vendor-specific applications.
β’ Knowledge of NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI codes and standards.
β’ Experience with protective relay equipment from manufacturers including SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, and Basler.
β’ Competency in MS Office applications.
β’ Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
β’ Must not require employer sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S.
β’ A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
β’ A degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program is preferred.
β’ Experience with in-line, bus, and equipment protection; control of breaker, transformer, and similar equipment; RTU and data-concentrator SCADA systems; and telemetering and communications.
β’ Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation is considered valuable.
β’ Construction and start-up experience is valued.
