Lead Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design and create new systems as well as enhance existing ones.

• Collaborate with product teams to gather requirements and produce design documentation.

• Build and develop large-scale, high-traffic full-stack applications that encompass front-end UI, web and API services, data models, data flows, and deployment infrastructure.

• Establish monitoring, alerting, automated build and deployment pipelines, and systems for measuring application performance.

• Ensure compliance with test coverage, enterprise standards, target architecture, high availability, scalability, low latency, fault tolerance, and cost efficiency.

• Produce system and process documentation, onboarding checklists, system overviews, runbooks, troubleshooting guidance, and suggestions for improvements.

• Facilitate solution design discussions and assess tools and technologies.

• Lead development teams, mentor team members, and conduct code reviews.

• Manage daily project delivery, engage in Agile stand-ups, address blockers, and communicate timelines and updates effectively.

• Influence technical standards and practices that extend beyond the immediate team.

• Shape technical strategies and roadmaps in collaboration with Tech Leads, architects, product teams, and senior stakeholders.

• Promote reusable engineering patterns and enhancements across related teams.

• Represent the team in cross-functional technical decision-making.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.

• Proficient in one or more of Java, TypeScript, and NodeJS, with a readiness to learn additional languages.

• Demonstrated experience in building high-traffic web applications and deploying them in production environments.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.

• Experience in supporting live applications, debugging, interpreting logs, and utilizing Grafana/AWS CloudWatch dashboards.

• Skilled in writing SQL queries and working with SQL databases like MySQL, as well as NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB.

• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm.

• Experience with GitLab, CI/CD, Jenkins, and Sonar.

• Previous experience working within an Agile team.

• Ability to manage production issues and provide on-call support.

• Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas and project status clearly.

• Proficient documentation skills using Confluence, wikis, or similar tools.

• Capability to manage time effectively, deliver work punctually, and assess and estimate tasks accurately.

• Ability to collaborate with technical and product teams while managing expectations.

• Experience in overseeing teams on a daily basis without direct people management responsibilities.

• Overall calm demeanor with the ability to maintain a broader perspective.
