This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Oversee all piping engineering functions, which encompass pipe stress analysis, piping standards, material specifications, and pipe support design.
• Create and document methodologies, standards, and best practices for pipe stress analysis.
• Conduct pipe stress analyses utilizing industry-standard software.
• Assess piping systems for sustained, thermal expansion, occasional, seismic, wind, and dynamic loading.
• Design and specify systems for pipe support, including springs, restraints, guides, anchors, and hangers.
• Develop and maintain a standard catalog for pipe supports.
• Prepare calculations for piping stress, reports, design documentation, and engineering records.
• Ensure compliance of designs with ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and other relevant standards.
• Coordinate with piping designers, mechanical teams, civil/structural engineers, equipment teams, and project groups.
• Evaluate equipment nozzle loads and allowable loads from vendors.
• Execute analyses for fatigue, creep, dynamic effects, pulsation, vibration, and buckling.
• Collaborate with equipment vendors regarding pulsation dampeners and compatibility of piping systems.
• Review vendor drawings, equipment data, and support specifications.
• Develop and standardize piping material specifications for the company.
• Select piping materials based on process conditions, temperature, pressure, corrosion, erosion, compatibility, and applicable codes.
• Create specifications for piping, valves, specialty items, and procurement.
• Review deviations in specifications and address technical exceptions.
• Assist in value engineering and procurement initiatives.
• Act as the technical authority for piping engineering.
• Plan and coordinate engineering resources, including staffing, forecasting, and workload management.
• Assign, supervise, and review the work of internal engineers, contractors, and third-party firms.
• Ensure that deliverables adhere to schedules and quality standards.
• Engage in interdisciplinary design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and design evaluations.
• Mentor piping engineers and designers.
• Interface effectively with clients, vendors, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, or an equivalent engineering program from an accredited four (4) year university or relevant work experience.
• At least ten (10) years of relevant experience in piping engineering, particularly in pipe stress analysis and piping materials/specifications.
• Comprehensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, MSS, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASTM, API, NACE, WRC-537, and ISO.
• Proficiency in using pipe stress analysis software, preferably AutoPIPE; familiarity with CAESAR II, ROHR, or PEPS is also acceptable.
• Experience in selecting materials suitable for high-temperature service, molten salt systems, cryogenic applications, vacuum piping systems, corrosive environments, and pressure-containing systems.
• Strong communication skills with management, colleagues, vendors, and contractors.
• Proficient in Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, web browsers, and email applications.
• Experience with Navisworks is a plus.
• Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to acquire licensure.
• Familiarity with 3D plant design software like Plant 3D, SmartPlant, AVEVA E3D, or CADWorx.
• Background in power generation, industrial process facilities, chemical processing, molten salt systems, or energy projects.
• Capability to engage in stooping, climbing, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
• Commitment to safety in environments with heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics.
