Lead Mainframe Storage Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +38 more states.

📋 Description

• Configure and maintain IBM DS8000 series DASD as well as TS7700 Virtual Tape Servers.

• Manage TS7700 MI alongside DS8K HMCs.

• Design SMS configurations utilizing the DFSMS suite.

• Oversee the management of data class, storage class, and management class rules.

• Supervise data replication, develop disaster recovery plans, and conduct routine backups.

• Utilize DFHSM and DFDSS for backup and disaster recovery initiatives.

• Monitor storage utilization and project future space needs.

• Plan infrastructure upgrades to avert storage shortages.

• Create and maintain REXX automation scripts for regular storage tasks and alerts.

• Add volumes to storage groups that lack sufficient capacity.

• Troubleshoot storage-related outages effectively.

• Conduct root cause analysis.

• Resolve dataset access problems.

• Implement complex storage migrations with minimal disruption to production workloads.

• Ensure a highly available Z Compute and Storage platform that is resilient to infrastructure failures, regional disasters, and cyber incidents.

• Support scalable, reliable, high-performing technology solutions that align with Morgan Stanley’s technology objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of the IBM z/OS environment.

• Experience with IBM DS8000 series DASD and TS7700 Virtual Tape Servers.

• Familiarity with TS7700 MI and DS8K HMCs.

• Proficient in using the DFSMS suite to design SMS configurations and manage data, storage, and management class rules.

• Experience in data replication, disaster recovery planning, and performing routine backups.

• Knowledge of DFHSM and DFDSS.

• Skilled in monitoring storage utilization, forecasting space requirements, and planning infrastructure upgrades.

• REXX scripting capabilities.

• Ability to troubleshoot storage-related outages and access issues with datasets.

• Experienced in root cause analysis.

• Proficient with ICKDSF, IDCAMS, and IEBCOPY.

• Familiarity with tape management systems such as TLMS and RMM.

• Experience with Tivoli Advanced catalog management.

• Knowledge of IBM Tivoli Advanced allocation management for z/OS.

• Understanding of FICON connectivity.

• Knowledge of z/OS access methods, including VSAM and QSAM.

• Ability to implement complex storage migrations with minimal impact on production workloads.

• Experience with Replication and PPRC protocols.

• Familiarity with Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and Global Copy.

• Experience with Cyber SafeGuarded Copy.

• Knowledge of Copy Services Manager and ESSNI.

• Experience with Hyperswap and Hyperwrite.

• Familiarity with Hyperlinks.

• Nice to have: experience in certificate deployment and management for network connections.

• Nice to have: proficiency in Python or Perl scripting.

• Nice to have: knowledge of GDPS.

• Nice to have: experience with Secure Vault (Cyber) physical and virtual isolation.
