Lead Director, Data Science – Clinical AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Establish the AI strategy and technical objectives for the clinical AI portfolio in collaboration with product and engineering teams.

• Set benchmarks for clinical AI capabilities in production and assess progress against these standards.

• Collaborate on shaping the technical direction of the portfolio and address cross-disciplinary trade-offs.

• Ensure that clinical AI capabilities seamlessly integrate with the overall clinical intelligence platform.

• Convert CVS Health and regulatory requirements into engineering and modeling practices.

• Promote the use of advanced AI and machine learning technologies, such as large language models and generative AI, on clinical data.

• Elevate standards for model evaluation, monitoring, and clinical validation processes.

• Enhance production AI in terms of cost, latency, reliability, and scalability.

• Advocate for reusable model patterns, evaluation frameworks, and broadly applicable methodologies.

• Provide direct management and development for data scientists across portfolio squads.

• Recruit, mentor, and retain clinical AI talent while fostering the growth of senior technical leaders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in analytics, data science, or applied AI.

• Practical experience in developing and implementing machine learning and deep learning solutions.

• Familiarity with natural language processing, large language models, and generative AI.

• More than 5 years of experience in setting AI/ML technical direction across various teams.

• At least 5 years of experience in people management, including hiring, training, and retaining technical teams.

• Proven experience delivering healthcare AI or analytics capabilities to production at an enterprise scale.

• Experience with clinical, claims, or member data.

• Production ML experience that includes model evaluation, monitoring, lifecycle management, and trade-offs in cost, latency, reliability, and scalability.

• Knowledge of operating under healthcare AI regulatory frameworks and responsible AI constraints, including HIPAA, NCQA, or equivalent standards, along with AI governance guidelines.

• Proficiency in Python and SQL.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with senior product, engineering, and executive stakeholders.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.

• A Master's degree or higher is preferred.
