This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North America.
• Develop and uphold data governance policies, classification standards, ownership models, and exception procedures.
• Manage data access governance for the lakehouse and analytics stack, which includes entitlement standards, periodic access reviews, and adherence to least-privilege access principles.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering on Ranger policies, schema restrictions, and the management of service accounts.
• Establish data quality standards and assist Data teams in monitoring and enhancing compliance with these standards.
• Maintain data inventory, metadata, and lineage documentation for compliance and audit objectives.
• Evaluate data-related vendors and new analytics, reverse ETL, AI, notebook, and similar use cases in conjunction with Security, Privacy, and Legal teams.
• Facilitate sensitive and cross-border data requests, including handling of PII and regional data flows.
• Prepare documentation for SOC 2, ISO 27001, CSA STAR, partner security evaluations, and regulatory examinations.
• Monitor data risks and control deficiencies as part of the Enterprise Risk Management program.
• Act as the governance liaison for Data and Security on inquiries related to access, classification, and tooling.
• Assist in establishing guidelines for the ethical use of corporate data in analytics workflows involving AI.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in data governance, data security, GRC, privacy engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience with contemporary data platforms, including lakehouse/warehouse environments, SQL engines, BI, and semantic layers.
• Strong understanding of data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK and NIST.
• Proven experience in developing or managing data classification, access control, or entitlement review programs.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms; experience with GCP is advantageous.
• Working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, cross-border transfers, and relevant financial-services privacy and regulatory standards.
• Experience in supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar audits.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and implement suitable controls.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at thriving in a fast-paced remote setting.
• Comfortable functioning as an individual contributor without direct reports.
• Background in fintech, brokerage, or regulated financial services is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with Trino, Apache Ranger, dbt, Cube, Metabase, Airflow, or Iceberg is a plus.
• Familiarity with reviewing AI/ML and analytics tools is a plus.
• Experience with privacy programs or vendor/DPA review is a plus.
• Certifications such as CIPT, CIPM, CISM, CISSP, CDMP, CRISC, or similar are advantageous.
• Experience dealing with Japan or EU data residency and cross-border data challenges is a plus.
• Exposure to ERM or operational risk is a plus.
