Junior Commercial Legal Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Manage legal issues assigned by the Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial Affairs.

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts and agreements for clients and suppliers in both French and English.

• Depending on your experience, take the lead in structuring, drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and finalizing commercial and corporate transactions.

• Develop and maintain agreement templates in French and English that are applicable in Québec.

• Work closely with the Legal and Compliance department, as well as cross-functional teams, to identify requirements, provide advice to internal clients, and support the growth of Harris.

• Advocate for the needs of the business unit when engaging with clients, suppliers, and partners; collaborate with external legal counsel during negotiations and the resolution of disputes.

• Monitor and assess legal trends and risks associated with the legislative and regulatory framework in Québec and at the federal level.

• Engage in the development and enhancement of compliance programs related to public-sector contracts and privacy legislation.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. or equivalent) from an accredited law school.

• Admission to the Québec Bar and in good standing, with the authorization to practice law in Québec.

• 0–3 years of experience in commercial or technology law within Québec, gained either at a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel.

• Capability to work independently with business units and perform tasks autonomously.

• Exceptional time-management abilities, with a proven track record of managing multiple deadlines and priorities concurrently.

• Proficiency in analyzing complex situations and data to evaluate risks, impacts, and subsequent steps, while exhibiting curiosity and creativity in addressing various issues.

• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with a desire to be part of a cohesive legal team.

• Familiarity with SaaS solutions, hosting, software licensing agreements, and the laws governing contracts and obligations in Québec.

• Outstanding oral and written communication skills in both French and English.

• Understanding of Québec’s private-sector privacy legislation, Law 25, along with applicable federal privacy laws.
