Japanese STEM Expert, PhD

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.

📋 Description

• Craft expert-level scientific prompts in Japanese.

• Generate content that is technically sound across specialized STEM fields.

• Utilize advanced subject-matter expertise in realistic scientific contexts.

• Ensure that scientific terms and concepts are precise and appropriately contextualized.

• Assess technical responses for accuracy, relevance, and usefulness.

• Detect incorrect assumptions, terminology, mechanisms, or conclusions.

• Evaluate the technical soundness of scientific reasoning.

• Review and annotate scientific responses according to structured criteria.

• Consistently classify prompts and conversations.

• Provide succinct written justifications for evaluation decisions.

• Evaluate technical content that may involve sensitive or dual-use information.

• Implement structured guidelines concerning scientific safety considerations.

• Identify situations necessitating additional caution or contextual assessment.

• Clearly document the rationale behind scientific safety evaluations.

• Leverage knowledge of contemporary laboratory and computational methodologies.

• Assess scientific methods, experimental assumptions, technical workflows, terminology, and reasoning.

• Create accurate and natural Japanese-language scientific content.

• Evaluate specialist terminology for both linguistic and scientific accuracy.

• Communicate clearly in written English when documenting evaluation outcomes.

⛳️ Requirements

• PhD completed or currently underway in chemistry, biology, or a closely related STEM field.

• Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese.

• Business-level written proficiency in English.

• Extensive expertise in a specific scientific subfield.

• Strong familiarity with modern laboratory and/or computational techniques.

• Excellent scientific reasoning skills and meticulous attention to technical details.

• Sound judgment regarding scientific safety and responsible handling of dual-use information.

• Experience in research or coursework related to chemical safety and security, biosafety, biosecurity, or hazardous materials handling is a plus.

• Background in reviewing, grading, evaluating, or red-teaming technical content is advantageous.

• Prior experience with AI or machine learning is not mandatory.

• Candidates located in Japan or broader East Asia are especially encouraged to apply, though applicants from other regions are also welcomed.

• Work must be conducted without using confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, institution, or third party.
