IT Automation Engineer – Business Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and maintain automation scripts and workflows to enhance IT service delivery, endpoint provisioning, and systems administration.

• Develop, manage, and own automated workflows for user lifecycle, device provisioning, and identity lifecycle utilizing Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, APIs, and webhooks.

• Implement automations with logging and alerting to ensure actions are auditable and measurable, tracking saved hours and reduced errors.

• Convert manual IT operations processes into reliable, documented, automated solutions while adapting existing scripts and tools to meet evolving business demands.

• Leverage AI tools to expedite script development, troubleshoot automation failures, and draft technical documentation, ensuring output validation before production use.

• Manage, configure, and monitor end-user and identity platforms including Active Directory, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, and Tanium.

• Administer and support Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.

• Address Windows and macOS end-user computing issues through ticketing, messaging, and voice or video sessions, owning requests from start to finish.

• Escalate critical incidents, system alerts, and complex integration architecture decisions to senior IT Operations colleagues.

• Document technical solutions, automation workflows, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides in accordance with IT and Information Security standards.

• Collaborate with Service Desk, Infrastructure Engineering, and Information Security teams to identify opportunities for automation.

• Work with partner teams to test, deploy, and monitor automation workflows.

• Occasionally provide guidance to Service Desk teammates on scripting fundamentals and automation best practices.

• Maintain and update the automation knowledge base, runbooks, and integration documentation.

• Monitor the performance and reliability of deployed automation, addressing and resolving issues within your area of responsibility.

• Validate AI-generated scripts, configurations, and recommendations in non-production environments, adhering to responsible AI and data security standards.

• Share effective AI-assisted strategies and prompts with colleagues.

• Identify opportunities to integrate automation and AI into Business Technology workflows, escalating larger opportunities to management.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in IT systems administration, service desk operations, or a related technical position.

• Practical experience in writing and maintaining automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar languages.

• Hands-on experience in administering or supporting enterprise identity, collaboration, and productivity platforms such as Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Microsoft 365, Slack, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.

• Proven experience in adapting or troubleshooting existing automation, scripts, or workflows to resolve moderately complex and ambiguous technical issues.

• Familiarity with AI tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Claude for research, communication, analysis, documentation, automation, workflow optimization, and decision-making.

• Demonstrated use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot to develop, deploy, or automate a working solution, substantiated by a portfolio, repository, or project example.

• Must be located in the United States Central or Mountain time zone, with working hours aligned to that time zone.

• Ability to manage escalations that require coordination across teams.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for urgent issues outside of business hours.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Availability for occasional travel to Rithum offices, expected quarterly.

• Proven success in a remote work environment.

• Preferred: 3+ years of experience in IT automation, systems engineering, or a DevOps-adjacent role.

• Preferred: Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Linux+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent scripting/automation certifications.

• Preferred: Experience integrating automation with IT service management or endpoint management tools such as ServiceNow, Microsoft Intune, or Jira.

• Preferred: Experience with workflow orchestration or automation tools like Zapier, Make, n8n, or Workato.

• Preferred: Knowledge of REST API integration patterns and event-driven concepts such as webhooks, triggers, and conditional logic.

• Preferred: Exposure to endpoint management and protection platforms like Microsoft Intune, Jamf, Tanium, or CrowdStrike.

• Preferred: Personal projects, repositories, or hackathon participation showcasing scripting or automation skills.
