IT Automation Engineer – Business Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain automation scripts and workflows utilizing PowerShell, Python, Bash, or comparable technologies.

• Create and manage automated workflows for user lifecycle management, device provisioning, and identity lifecycle utilizing Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, APIs, and webhooks.

• Implement logging and alerting for automations while tracking hours saved and errors reduced.

• Convert manual IT operations processes into dependable, documented, automated solutions.

• Leverage AI tools to expedite script development, troubleshoot automation failures, and draft technical documentation, ensuring outputs are verified before production use.

• Administer, configure, and monitor end-user and identity platforms including Active Directory, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, and Tanium.

• Manage and support Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.

• Address Windows and macOS end-user computing issues through ticketing systems, messaging, and voice or video sessions.

• Take ownership of requests from start to finish and escalate critical incidents and system alerts to senior IT Operations.

• Document technical solutions in accordance with corporate IT and Information Security standards and policies.

• Collaborate with Service Desk, Infrastructure Engineering, and Information Security teams to identify opportunities for automation.

• Test, deploy, and oversee automation workflows in collaboration with partner teams.

• Occasionally provide guidance to Service Desk teammates regarding scripting and automation best practices.

• Document automation workflows, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.

• Manage and uphold the automation knowledge base, runbooks, and integration notes.

• Apply lessons learned to enhance reliability, minimize inefficiencies, and anticipate dependencies.

• Monitor the performance and reliability of deployed automations and resolve or escalate issues as necessary.

• Validate AI-generated scripts, configurations, and recommendations in non-production environments.

• Share effective AI-assisted strategies and prompts with team members.

• Identify opportunities to integrate automation and AI into Business Technology workflows, escalating larger opportunities to the manager.

• Report to the Manager of IT Operations, with escalation to senior IT Operations team members and collaboration across Business Technology teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in IT systems administration, service desk operations, or a related technical role, with hands-on experience in writing and maintaining automation scripts.

• Practical experience administering or supporting enterprise identity, collaboration, and productivity platforms such as Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Microsoft 365, Slack, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.

• Proven experience in adapting or troubleshooting existing automation, scripts, or workflows to resolve moderately complex, ambiguous technical issues.

• Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Claude for research, communication, analysis, documentation, automation, workflow optimization, and decision-making.

• Demonstrated hands-on experience with AI coding tools like Claude Code or GitHub Copilot to develop, implement, or automate a functional solution, supported by a portfolio, repository, or project example.

• Must be located in the United States Central or Mountain time zone, with working hours aligned to that time zone.

• Capability to handle escalations requiring coordination across teams.

• Participation in an on-call rotation for critical issues outside of regular business hours.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Availability for occasional travel to Rithum offices, expected quarterly.

• Successful professional experience working in a remote environment.

• Preferred: 3+ years of experience in IT automation, systems engineering, or a role adjacent to DevOps.

• Preferred: Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Linux+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent scripting/automation certifications.

• Preferred: Experience integrating automation with IT service management or endpoint management tools such as ServiceNow, Microsoft Intune, or Jira.

• Preferred: Experience with workflow orchestration or automation tools such as Zapier, Make, n8n, or Workato.

• Preferred: Familiarity with REST API integration patterns and event-driven concepts such as webhooks, triggers, and conditional logic.

• Preferred: Exposure to endpoint management and protection platforms like Microsoft Intune, Jamf, Tanium, or CrowdStrike.

• Preferred: Personal projects, repositories, or hackathon work showcasing scripting or automation skills.
