IT Automation Engineer – Business Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain automation scripts and workflows utilizing PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar languages.

• Enhance IT service delivery, endpoint provisioning, and systems administration tasks.

• Create and manage automated workflows for user lifecycle, device provisioning, and identity lifecycle leveraging Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, APIs, and webhooks.

• Implement automations with logging and alerting to ensure actions are both auditable and measurable.

• Monitor hours saved and errors minimized.

• Convert manual IT operations processes into dependable, documented, automated solutions.

• Utilize AI tools to expedite script development, troubleshoot automation issues, and prepare technical documentation.

• Oversee, configure, and monitor end-user and identity platforms including Active Directory, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, and Tanium.

• Administer and support Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.

• Address Windows and macOS end-user computing problems via ticketing, messaging, and voice or video sessions.

• Manage support requests from start to finish and escalate critical incidents and system alerts as necessary.

• Document technical solutions in accordance with corporate IT and Information Security standards.

• Collaborate with Service Desk, Infrastructure Engineering, and Information Security teams to discover automation opportunities.

• Test, launch, and oversee automation workflows in partnership with other teams.

• Provide occasional mentorship on scripting fundamentals and automation best practices.

• Document automation workflows, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.

• Maintain and oversee the automation knowledge base.

• Enhance reliability, reduce inefficiencies, and anticipate dependencies.

• Monitor the performance and reliability of deployed automation, addressing and resolving issues as they arise.

• Validate AI-generated scripts, configurations, and recommendations in non-production environments.

• Share effective AI-assisted methods and prompts with colleagues.

• Identify chances to implement automation and AI within Business Technology workflows and escalate larger opportunities to management.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in IT systems administration, service desk operations, or a comparable technical role.

• Practical experience in writing and maintaining automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar languages.

• Hands-on experience in administering or supporting enterprise identity, collaboration, and productivity platforms such as Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Microsoft 365, Slack, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.

• Experience in adapting or troubleshooting existing automation, scripts, or workflows to resolve moderately complex, ambiguous technical problems.

• Familiarity with AI tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Claude for research, communication, analysis, documentation, automation, workflow optimization, and decision-making.

• Practical use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot to create, implement, or automate working solutions, supported by a portfolio, repository, or project examples.

• Must be located in the United States Central or Mountain time zone, with working hours aligned to that time zone.

• Capability to handle escalations that require cross-team coordination.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for urgent issues outside of business hours.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Must be available for occasional travel to Rithum offices, expected quarterly.

• Proven professional experience working in a remote environment.

• Preferred: 3+ years of experience in IT automation, systems engineering, or a DevOps-adjacent role.

• Preferred: Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Linux+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent scripting/automation certifications.

• Preferred: Experience integrating automation with IT service management or endpoint management tools like ServiceNow, Microsoft Intune, or Jira.

• Preferred: Experience with workflow orchestration or automation tools such as Zapier, Make, n8n, or Workato.

• Preferred: Familiarity with REST API integration patterns and event-driven concepts including webhooks, triggers, and conditional logic.

• Preferred: Exposure to endpoint management and protection platforms such as Microsoft Intune, Jamf, Tanium, or CrowdStrike.

• Preferred: Personal projects, repositories, or hackathon work showcasing scripting or automation capabilities.
