IT Automation Engineer – Business Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, and sustain automation scripts and workflows to enhance IT service delivery, endpoint provisioning, and systems administration.

• Design, build, and manage automated workflows throughout the user lifecycle, device provisioning, and identity lifecycle utilizing Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, APIs, and webhooks.

• Implement automation with logging and alerting to ensure actions are traceable and quantifiable, monitoring hours saved and errors minimized.

• Convert manual IT operations processes into dependable, documented, automated solutions, adjusting scripts and tools to meet changing business requirements.

• Leverage AI tools to expedite script creation, diagnose automation failures, and produce technical documentation while validating outputs prior to production deployment.

• Manage, configure, and oversee Active Directory, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, and Tanium.

• Provide administration and support for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.

• Address Windows and macOS end-user computing challenges via ticketing, messaging, and voice or video interactions, taking ownership of requests from start to finish.

• Escalate critical incidents, system alerts, and intricate integration architecture decisions to senior IT Operations colleagues.

• Document technical solutions, automation workflows, runbooks, troubleshooting manuals, and integration notes.

• Collaborate with Service Desk, Infrastructure Engineering, and Information Security teams to pinpoint automation opportunities.

• Work with partner teams to test, implement, and oversee automation workflows.

• Occasionally mentor Service Desk colleagues on scripting basics and automation best practices.

• Track automation performance and reliability, escalating and resolving issues within one's area of responsibility.

• Validate AI-generated scripts, configurations, and recommendations in non-production settings in accordance with responsible AI and data security standards.

• Share effective AI-assisted methods and prompts with team members.

• Identify opportunities to integrate automation and AI into Business Technology workflows and raise larger opportunities with the manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in IT systems administration, service desk operations, or a related technical position.

• Practical experience in writing and maintaining automation scripts in languages such as PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar.

• Hands-on experience managing or supporting enterprise identity, collaboration, and productivity platforms, including Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Microsoft 365, Slack, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.

• Proven experience in adapting or troubleshooting existing automation, scripts, or workflows to address moderately complex and ambiguous technical issues.

• Experience utilizing AI tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Claude for research, communication, analysis, documentation, automation, workflow optimization, and decision-making.

• Practical use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot to create, ship, or automate a functional solution, evidenced by a portfolio, repository, or project example.

• Residing in the United States Central or Mountain time zone, with working hours aligned to that time zone.

• Capability to manage escalations requiring cross-team collaboration.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for urgent issues outside standard business hours.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Must be available for occasional travel to Rithum offices, expected quarterly.

• Demonstrated success in a remote work environment.

• Preferred: 3+ years of experience in IT automation, systems engineering, or a DevOps-related position.

• Preferred certifications such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Linux+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent scripting/automation credentials.

• Preferred experience integrating automation with IT service management or endpoint management tools like ServiceNow, Microsoft Intune, or Jira.

• Preferred experience with workflow orchestration or automation tools such as Zapier, Make, n8n, or Workato.

• Preferred familiarity with REST API integration patterns and event-driven concepts, including webhooks, triggers, and conditional logic.

• Preferred exposure to endpoint management and protection platforms such as Microsoft Intune, Jamf, Tanium, or CrowdStrike.

• Preferred personal projects, repositories, or hackathon work that showcase scripting or automation skills.
