Investment Accountant – Financial Reporting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Execute investment accounting for General Account invested assets adhering to Statutory, GAAP, Tax, and Management reporting frameworks.

• Investigate and assess intricate investment transactions to ascertain the appropriate accounting treatment in line with relevant accounting standards and regulatory guidance.

• Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes for fixed income securities, structured products, alternative investments, private placements, and mortgage loans.

• Examine and resolve accounting discrepancies in collaboration with portfolio managers, asset managers, custodians, and internal business partners.

• Prepare and scrutinize investment-related disclosures, statutory schedules, regulatory filings, earnings analyses, management reports, and supporting documents.

• Conduct technical accounting research and offer recommendations on new investment strategies, transactions, asset classes, and evolving accounting requirements.

• Address investment-related inquiries from rating agencies and assist with surveys, questionnaires, and external reporting obligations.

• Maintain and improve investment accounting controls, support SOX compliance, and pinpoint process enhancements.

• Lead or engage in projects, system upgrades, and strategic initiatives that affect investment accounting and reporting.

• Draft technical accounting memoranda and convey complex accounting issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Review team outputs, provide mentorship, and share technical knowledge to foster team development.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of investment accounting experience within an insurance company, insurance asset management organization, or a comparable environment that supports insurance investment portfolios.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• Comprehensive understanding of insurance investment accounting and financial reporting under Statutory and GAAP frameworks.

• Experience in accounting for fixed income securities, structured products, alternative investments, and mortgage loans.

• Familiarity with NAIC investment classifications, Schedule D reporting, and insurance regulatory reporting requirements.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation capabilities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Capability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• CPA, CFA, progress towards a professional designation, or proven expertise and relevant experience in investment accounting and reporting.

• Experience with insurance investment accounting systems such as Clearwater, PAM, Eagle, Geneva, or similar platforms.

• Knowledge of SEC, Statutory, and other regulatory reporting requirements.

• Experience supporting General Account investment portfolios for life insurance, annuity, or property & casualty insurance companies.
