This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska.
• Execute geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design for projects related to geotechnics, including slope stabilization, earthworks, foundations, and earth retention systems.
• Draft technical reports and assist in the development of proposals.
• Maintain field logs of boreholes in both soil and rock during subsurface investigations.
• Conduct field inspections and site visits throughout the construction phases.
• Analyze in-situ and laboratory test results, along with instrumentation data.
• Work collaboratively with senior engineers and project managers to ensure quality and technical excellence.
• Aid in project delivery, encompassing budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with internal teams and clients.
• Offer guidance and mentorship to junior staff as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• 5–8 years of pertinent industry experience, or 3–6 years if holding a master’s degree.
• Current Professional Engineer (PE) designation or eligibility for registration as a PE in the USA within one year of hire.
• Proficiency in field investigation techniques such as soil visual-manual descriptions, rock core logging, SPT sampling, CPT soundings, test pits, and geophysical surveys.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical design principles, including limit equilibrium analysis, ASD and LRFD foundation analysis, as well as lateral earth pressure and earth retention.
• Knowledge of cold regions engineering principles, encompassing frost heave, permafrost, and thermal design.
• Familiarity with geotechnical software such as SLOPE/W, Slide2, RSPile, LPile, PLAXIS, TEMP/W, FLAC, or equivalent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and capability to drive a field pickup truck.
• Current passport.
• Ability to meet drug and alcohol testing requirements for fieldwork.
• Capability to receive necessary travel and assignment vaccinations.
• Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (preferred).
• Existing Canadian Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) Registration or eligibility within five years (preferred).
• Experience in deep and shallow foundation design, rock anchor/bolt/dowel design, earth retention systems, and consulting engineering or construction (preferred).
