Instructional Designer – Partner Specific

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Evaluate assigned courses within a specified scope and align charter requirements with designated course locations.

• Document any cascading impacts, assumptions, and uncertainties prior to development.

• Prepare a list of items that necessitate input from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) before the initial working session.

• Collaborate with SMEs to update in-scope instructional content and assessments in accordance with learning outcomes and the charter.

• Record out-of-scope issues instead of addressing them directly.

• Recommend applicable open educational resources and instructional strategies.

• Maintain thorough documentation of design decisions for partner review and approval.

• Integrate feedback from partners and stakeholders through established revision cycles.

• Lead SME working sessions and secure approvals for deliverables.

• Coordinate with Editorial, Quality Review, and other internal teams at designated handoff stages.

• Conduct self-quality assurance before each handoff.

• Ensure the delivery of complete and precise work by set milestones.

• Provide status updates along with milestone deliverables and promptly identify any risks or delays.

• Implement the design standards and charter version applicable for each project.

⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced degree in Education, Instructional Technology, or a related discipline.

• Up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of instructional design and learning theories.

• Proficiency in online learning, instructional design and technology, adult learning theory, and andragogy/pedagogy.

• 3-5 years of experience working with SMEs on online course development in higher education or corporate settings.

• Capability to establish strong working relationships with SMEs while adhering to deadlines.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to lead and influence collaboratively, including maintaining professional scope boundaries.

• Competence in interpreting scope documents and recognizing practical impacts, exclusions, and ambiguities.

• Strong independent judgment with the ability to make documented, defensible decisions.

• Experience with ADA compliance and course-design quality standards such as Quality Matters and OLC.

• Proficiency in navigating LMS platforms such as Brightspace, D2L, Canvas, and Moodle.

• Ability to identify and critically assess AI-generated content in SME submissions.

• Capability to accurately apply revised standards or specifications without a ramp-up period.

• Strong organizational capabilities, excellent follow-through, and exceptional attention to detail.

• Must reside within the Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific time zones.

• Must not be located in or based in California, New York, Illinois, or Massachusetts.

• Comfortable working independently without AI support on partner content.
