This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
β’ Examine medical records from the emergency department and allocate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, as well as CPT/HCPCS procedure codes and relevant modifiers.
β’ Assign Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels based on client-specific emergency department leveling criteria, facility charging methods, and the ACEP E/M tool.
β’ Evaluate clinical documentation from physicians, nursing personnel, ancillary departments, and diagnostic services to ensure complete and accurate code assignment and charge capture.
β’ Implement official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, and requirements specific to payers.
β’ Review procedural services, injections, and infusions for precise coding and billing.
β’ Detect documentation gaps and communicate the need for coding clarifications.
β’ Uphold compliance with coding policies and procedures set by Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers, and the organization.
β’ Engage in coding audits, quality assurance evaluations, educational programs, and process enhancement initiatives.
β’ Keep abreast of updates in coding, changes in reimbursement, and regulatory requirements.
β’ Collaborate with coding leadership, auditors, and client stakeholders to address coding-related inquiries and ensure accuracy in coding.
β’ Proven experience in coding emergency department facility records.
β’ In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
β’ Familiarity with ACEP emergency department leveling guidelines and facility E/M coding practices.
β’ Working understanding of CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer requirements.
β’ Proficient in using Epic or similar electronic health record systems.
β’ Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
β’ Capability to maintain coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance in a dynamic healthcare setting.
β’ Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification is preferred.
β’ Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is preferred.
β’ Certified Emergency Department Coder (CEDC) certification is preferred but not mandatory.
