This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.
β’ Examine medical records from the emergency department and assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and suitable modifiers.
β’ Assign facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels according to client-specific emergency department leveling guidelines, facility charging methodologies, and the ACEP E/M tool.
β’ Review clinical documentation from physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and diagnostic services for comprehensive code assignment and charge capture.
β’ Implement official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer-specific requirements.
β’ Scrutinize procedural services, injections, and infusions for precise coding and billing.
β’ Detect documentation deficiencies and relay coding clarification requirements through established communication channels.
β’ Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and organizational coding policies.
β’ Engage in coding audits, quality assurance evaluations, educational programs, and process enhancement initiatives.
β’ Stay updated on coding revisions, reimbursement adjustments, and regulatory stipulations.
β’ Collaborate with coding leadership, auditors, and client stakeholders to address coding-related inquiries and guarantee accuracy.
β’ Experience in coding emergency department facility records.
β’ Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
β’ Acquainted with ACEP emergency department leveling guidelines and facility E/M coding methodologies.
β’ Practical understanding of CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer specifications.
β’ Proficient in using Epic or similar electronic health record systems.
β’ Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
β’ Capacity to uphold coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance in a dynamic healthcare setting.
β’ Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred.
β’ Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred.
β’ Certified Emergency Department Coder (CEDC) preferred, but not mandatory.
