Hydrographic Processing Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee daily imports and processing activities for multiday projects.

• Process multibeam hydrographic data utilizing QPS Qimera, which includes data cleaning, refraction correction, application of sound velocity, validation of patch tests, review of calibration, generation of surfaces, uncertainty analysis, feature detection, creation, and reporting.

• Conduct processing and interpretation of side scan sonar data using SonarWiz, encompassing mosaicking, gain normalization, target identification and classification, selection of contacts, and reporting.

• Manage and create features in QPS Qimera and CARIS.

• Review and validate acquisition logs and metadata from QINSy for seamless integration into processing workflows.

• Generate daily data packages that include Coverage TIFFs and Line Mile reports.

• Produce delivery packages that consist of Bathymetric Surfaces and Grids, Backscatter and Side Scan mosaics, GIS-compatible feature datasets, and comprehensive survey overview and analysis reports.

• Execute QA/QC checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to project specifications.

• Document processing workflows to maintain reproducibility across projects.

• Identify inefficiencies and enhance internal processing standards.

• Collaborate with field teams to address data gaps, anomalies, or acquisition issues.

• Partner with project managers and technical leads to fulfill project timelines and deliverable requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics, environmental science, ocean engineering, coastal and ocean policy, geology, geography, geophysics, oceanography, spatial science, marine science, physics, mathematics, or a related field, along with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with at least 1 year of relevant experience.

• Strong comprehension of hydrographic survey principles and geospatial data workflows.

• Proven experience with industry-standard software such as QPS Qinsy and Qimera, CARIS, SonarWiz, SeaView, Discover, Global Mapper, POS Pac, ArcGIS, etc.

• Detail-oriented approach with an emphasis on producing precise, defensible datasets.

• Ability to thrive in a team environment, manage oneself, and oversee others.

• Capability to handle multiple datasets and meet deadlines within a production setting.

• Willingness to learn and adapt as necessary.

• Strong work ethic with the ability to self-motivate and take accountability, especially in a potentially remote environment.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Above-average attention to detail and aesthetics in data modeling.

• Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new software.

• Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country where the job is located.

• Preferred: Experience with Qimera or CARIS; experience with SonarWiz; familiarity with feature management and reporting; knowledge of NOAA Hydrographic Specifications and Deliverables, IHO Hydrographic Specifications, NOAA Pydro Toolset, and Global Mapper or GIS platforms.
