This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
β’ Act as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to leaders, managers, and employees throughout ChicagoCAC.
β’ Enhance employee engagement while fostering a healthy, inclusive, equitable, and legally compliant workplace culture.
β’ Assist with employee relations, policy interpretation and application, recruitment and onboarding, benefits, training, and HR compliance.
β’ Collaborate with hiring managers and the People & Culture team on equitable, candidate-focused recruitment and onboarding.
β’ Define position requirements, competencies, and selection criteria.
β’ Aid in candidate screening, interviews, selection processes, reference checks, offers, phone screens, and structured interviews.
β’ Organize candidate communications, background checks, pre-employment requirements, and new hire orientation.
β’ Facilitate 30-, 60-, and 90-day onboarding practices to enhance employee integration and retention.
β’ Provide guidance to employees and managers on workplace issues, performance management, policy interpretation, and employee relations.
β’ Coach managers on giving feedback, handling difficult conversations, setting performance expectations, addressing conduct, attendance, behavioral issues, and progressive performance management.
β’ Conduct or assist with employee relations reviews, workplace inquiries, and investigations.
β’ Ensure confidentiality, documentation, and the appropriate escalation of significant or high-risk matters.
β’ Support performance improvement plans, written counseling, corrective action, and other performance management processes.
β’ Offer advice on health, retirement, leave, wellness, total rewards, eligibility, enrollment, and qualifying life events.
β’ Collaborate with benefits vendors, payroll, and People & Culture colleagues to resolve employee-related issues.
β’ Assist with annual benefits enrollment, leave administration, employee communications, and benefits education.
β’ Coordinate or facilitate necessary employee training and development programs.
β’ Monitor completion of mandatory training.
β’ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, audits, reporting, recordkeeping, and documentation.
β’ Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, employee resources, HR records, and HRIS data.
β’ Support policy rollouts, change management, HR reporting, and process enhancements.
β’ Engage in People & Culture projects and organizational initiatives.
β’ Establish relationships with leadership, managers, employees, Finance/Payroll, vendors, counsel, and other partners.
β’ Utilize data, employee feedback, and organizational trends to guide recommendations and foresee people-related risks and opportunities.
β’ Assist leaders in enhancing their effectiveness as people managers.
β’ Operate with mid-level discretion and independent decision-making; no supervisory responsibilities.
β’ Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
β’ 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with significant expertise in employee relations and HR business partnership.
β’ A total of 10 years of related experience.
β’ Proven experience advising managers and leaders on employee relations and performance issues.
β’ In-depth knowledge of employment practices, HR policies, and applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
β’ Experience in supporting recruitment, onboarding, benefits, training, and HR compliance.
β’ Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
β’ Capacity to handle sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment.
β’ Strong organizational abilities and adeptness at managing multiple priorities in a mission-driven environment.
β’ Proficient with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and HR reporting tools.
β’ Preferred certifications include SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or a comparable HR certification.
β’ Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, social services, child welfare, or similarly mission-driven organization.
β’ Familiarity with HRIS platforms such as ADP.
β’ Background in employee engagement, organizational development, or cultural initiatives.
β’ Knowledge of Illinois and Chicago employment requirements.
β’ Experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment.
β’ BCBS HMO and PPO healthcare coverage options with the possibility of adding family members to plans.
β’ Complimentary life insurance at 2x your salary, up to a maximum of $200,000.
β’ Additional pay of 5% of your salary, up to $3,750 per year after 6 months, applicable toward extra health benefits, dental, vision, long-term disability, short-term disability, 403b plan, Roth option, legal coverage, dependent care, and flexible spending.
β’ Paid Time Off (PTO) begins accruing from day one at a rate of 35 days in a 12-month period, encompassing holidays and sick time.
β’ PTO increases to 40 days after 5 years.
β’ Additional PTO for FMLA-related reasons, up to 20 days.
