Human-Centered Design Specialist IV – Technical Design

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee comprehensive human-centered design initiatives for new technical solutions, significant enhancements, and redesign projects.

• Convert stakeholder and user requirements into intuitive, usable, accessible, and technically viable digital experiences.

• Design applications and dashboards using Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint sites and solutions, analytics products, workflow tools, and various enterprise digital platforms.

• Create information architectures, navigation systems, user flows, task flows, process flows, and interaction models.

• Develop low-, medium-, and high-fidelity wireframes, mockups, clickable prototypes, and design concepts.

• Prepare design specifications and materials for developer handoff.

• Collaborate with developers, solution architects, analysts, product owners, and technical leads.

• Assess implemented solutions against approved designs and user experience standards.

• Organize and conduct stakeholder and user interviews, discovery sessions, contextual inquiries, workshops, usability testing, and qualitative research.

• Distill findings into themes, insights, design principles, user needs, and actionable recommendations.

• Create personas, journey maps, experience maps, service blueprints, workflows, and other human-centered design artifacts.

• Validate and refine designs based on research outcomes, technical considerations, accessibility standards, and user feedback.

• Contribute to or lead Magnify Reports, documenting stakeholder needs, insights, opportunities, recommendations, and design strategies.

• Produce executive-level presentations and visual materials for VA and LMI stakeholders.

• Integrate Section 508, WCAG, accessibility, and inclusive design principles into all designs.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and facilitate design sessions, reviews, and working meetings.

• Engage in LMI's human-centered design community of practice, sharing methods, templates, lessons learned, and reusable resources.

• Operate within Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid delivery frameworks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Human-Centered Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, UX Design, Information Design, Psychology, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

• 7+ years of experience in human-centered design, UX design, product design, service design, interaction design, or a related field.

• Proven track record of independently steering complex digital product or enterprise technology design projects.

• Strong background in conducting stakeholder and user research and translating insights into actionable design recommendations.

• Demonstrated capability to create wireframes, user flows, information architectures, journey maps, interactive prototypes, and detailed design specifications.

• Proficient in modern design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Axure, Miro, or similar platforms.

• Experience collaborating effectively with software developers, architects, analysts, and technical teams.

• Technical fluency adequate to design solutions within enterprise platforms and communicate efficiently with development teams.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, enterprise dashboards, data visualization, workflow systems, or similar technologies.

• Knowledge of Section 508, WCAG, accessibility, and inclusive design principles.

• Exceptional skills in stakeholder interviewing, facilitation, presentation, and communication.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to work independently in ambiguous situations.

• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent design and research tasks.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

• Desired: Master's degree, a portfolio, federal healthcare or VA experience, Microsoft 365 experience, federal digital modernization experience, service design/systems thinking/Lean UX/Design Thinking/Agile product development experience, experience with formal government human-centered design deliverables, and relevant certifications.
