Online Curriculum Design Consultant – Dialogue under Pressure, Multi-Track Engagement with Armed Actors and Authorities

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Switzerland.

📋 Description

• Perform an inception review of NP internal guidelines, engagement protocols, training materials, field tools, and pertinent external literature.

• Analyze the current training and methodological landscape and create a complementarity and value-add assessment.

• Engage with NP field teams through remote interviews and/or focus groups across representative country programs.

• Document field-tested practices, engagement protocols, case studies, challenges, and lessons learned.

• Confirm draft course content with NP field teams.

• Design the course structure, encompassing learning pathways, modules, sessions, learning objectives, estimated learning time, sequencing, and prerequisites.

• Create course modules covering actor analysis, preparation, mandates, red lines, principled positioning, multi-track sequencing, pressure and coercion, team safety, duty of care, confidentiality, inclusion, community-led dialogue, handover, follow-up, and accountability.

• Develop knowledge assessments, end-of-module quizzes, a final evaluation, and criteria for completion or certification.

• Generate an inception note and annotated course outline.

• Create a complementarity and value-add analysis with positioning recommendations.

• Compile a consultation report detailing findings and case materials.

• Develop a draft course package, including modules, content, scenario exercises, and assessments.

• Facilitate a validation session and create a consolidated feedback matrix.

• Deliver the final course package, digitalization guidance note, and resource list.

• Submit all deliverables in English and in editable formats.

• Report to the UCP Academy Manager, participate in an inception check-in and weekly progress calls, and secure written approval for deliverables.

• Manage case materials in accordance with NP confidentiality and do-no-harm policies, anonymizing or clearing sensitive examples before use.

⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced university degree in peace and conflict studies, international relations, international humanitarian law, education, or a related field.

• Proven, substantial experience in unarmed civilian protection, including direct interaction with armed actors and authorities, protective presence, deterrence, and community-based protection.

• Previous work with NP or similar UCP entities is a significant advantage.

• Familiarity with methodologies and training offerings from CCHN / Frontline Negotiations, Geneva Call, the ICRC, the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, or similar organizations.

• A minimum of five years’ experience in designing adult learning curricula, ideally for online or blended delivery, including scenario- or simulation-based learning on sensitive and high-risk topics.

• Capability to convert field practices into accessible learning content.

• Excellent proficiency in written English.

• Proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic is advantageous.

• Ability to work independently, remotely, and across various time zones.

• Capacity to handle sensitive operational information with confidentiality.

• CV, a brief technical proposal, relevant work samples, and an all-inclusive daily rate are required for application.
