This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee the daily people operations at Poppy & Peonies.
• Develop programs, practices, and frameworks to support the company’s upcoming growth phase.
• Manage the entire employee lifecycle, which includes onboarding, performance management, benefits administration, employee relations, engagement, learning and development, policy management, and offboarding.
• Supervise culture and employee experience initiatives for a remote-first team.
• Collaborate with the founder and leadership team to align business goals with people strategies.
• Create workforce plans that address growth, capacity, key positions, succession planning, and skills assessment.
• Provide HR support and insights to both leaders and employees.
• Establish HR metrics and deliver leadership recommendations and insights.
• Enhance and manage performance management, manager coaching, employee relations, investigations, accommodations, leave management, attendance, compensation, benefits, and offboarding procedures.
• Design and implement culture programs, team rituals, recognition initiatives, virtual events, employee feedback efforts, learning and development activities, and internal communications.
• Supervise the Culture Specialist.
• Work with leaders on hiring needs, recruitment processes, job descriptions, interview techniques, candidate communications, and onboarding procedures.
• Manage partnerships with Bloom and other external recruitment agencies.
• Evaluate, refine, and expand HR programs, systems, workflows, templates, playbooks, and tools.
• Maintain the annual people calendar, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term people function development.
• Around 5–7 years of progressive HR experience, encompassing substantial generalist responsibilities.
• Background in roles such as HR Manager, Senior HR Generalist, People Operations Manager, or similar intermediate positions.
• Experience in supporting a small but growing company where priorities, roles, and processes are continuously evolving.
• Proven experience working directly with a founder and senior leaders within a founder-led organization.
• Strong generalist knowledge in areas including performance management, employee relations, benefits, policies, onboarding, employee experience, learning and development, and offboarding.
• Experience coaching managers on performance issues, feedback discussions, team challenges, and employee development.
• Proven ability to develop, enhance, and scale people programs, processes, and systems.
• Capability to navigate between strategic planning and detailed execution.
• Strong judgment, with the ability to identify issues that can be handled independently versus those needing legal or specialized counsel.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent relationship-building abilities, with confidence in providing direct and respectful guidance to founders and leaders.
• Strong organizational, project management, and follow-through skills.
• Comfortable managing confidential and sensitive employee information.
• Experience supporting remote-first or distributed teams.
• Familiarity with applicable Canadian employment standards and HR practices.
• Relevant post-secondary education or HR designation is a plus but not mandatory if equivalent experience is demonstrated.
• Experience across multiple provinces or jurisdictions is an asset.
• Background in e-commerce, retail, consumer goods, fashion, or other fast-paced customer-oriented environments is an advantage.
