
HR Leave Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
β’ Engage with employees regarding their leave requirements, adjusted work schedules, responsibilities, and necessary documentation.
β’ Manage FMLA leave from the initial notification through the employee's return to work.
β’ Collect and complete documentation, determine eligibility, issue leave forms, designate qualifying leave, request medical certifications, and monitor intermittent/reduced work schedule leave.
β’ Maintain ongoing communication with employees on leave and facilitate the flow of information between employees and management.
β’ Provide guidance to managers and employees regarding leave laws, paid time off, and disability benefits.
β’ Oversee return-to-work procedures for extended FMLA, military leave, and other types of leave.
β’ Coordinate accommodation requests and intermittent leave under the ADA.
β’ Collaborate with HR and employee managers on the approval and denial of leave requests.
β’ Draft or suggest revisions to leave policies to ensure legal compliance.
β’ Keep accurate records of leave and accommodations.
β’ Safeguard the confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
β’ Stay informed on FMLA, ADA, and state/local leave and accommodation regulations.
β’ Work alongside the disability provider to ensure correct filing of claims.
β’ Monitor employee leave data in Abentys (Leavelink).
β’ Update employee leave status in Workday.
β’ Coordinate return-to-work processes and accommodations.
β’ Assist with HRIS testing as necessary.
β’ Perform additional duties as assigned.
β’ Bachelorβs Degree or equivalent experience.
β’ 2-3 years of experience in administering leave of absence or a related field.
β’ Comprehensive knowledge of leave regulations and legal protections under FMLA, ADA, and other pertinent laws.
β’ Capability to manage multiple requests while maintaining high organizational standards.
β’ Strong follow-through abilities and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced setting.
β’ Effective communication skills and high-level service across all organizational tiers.
β’ Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
β’ Capacity to maintain highly confidential employee personal health information and files.
β’ Knowledge of HIPAA compliance.
β’ Workday experience is preferred.
β’ Ability to bend, squat, crouch, and/or reach, and lift up to 25 pounds or more as necessary.
β’ Adherence to Sunbeltβs safety policies and guidelines.
β’ Capability to work under potentially varied conditions, including extended driving, heavy equipment loading/unloading, extreme weather, nights, and weekends when required.
