HR Consultant – Total Compensation Review

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Spearhead a thorough modernization of the university's talent and total compensation framework.

β€’ Create an institutional Total Rewards Philosophy and executive summary that encompasses base pay, benefits, recognition, career mobility, and financial sustainability.

β€’ Set up market benchmarking methodologies, peer groups, and job-matching rules for as many as 550 positions.

β€’ Design at least three pay structure options, including salary grades, broadbanding, and competency/skill-based bands.

β€’ Develop interactive Excel models featuring dynamic scenario toggles for sensitivity analyses and budget impact forecasting.

β€’ Draft an institutional Salary Management Policy addressing placement, promotional increases, merit progression, market adjustments, acting pay, approvals, and appeals.

β€’ Create interactive salary calculators for managers and templates for placement scenario testing.

β€’ Revamp performance and merit management frameworks while linking merit allocation models to compensation budgets.

β€’ Formulate an implementation roadmap and RACI matrix that align with the concurrent Job Architecture review.

β€’ Define decision rights, approval thresholds, and ongoing operating models.

β€’ Prepare executive presentations, communication toolkits for all staff, coaching resources for managers, and FAQs.

β€’ Optionally provide support for Phase 2 implementation, which may include HRIS integration, job-to-band matching, train-the-trainer sessions, and recalibration.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ Experienced Human Resources / Total Rewards Consultant.

β€’ In-depth knowledge of professional and executive compensation design, salary banding, internal relativity, and Pay Equity compliance.

β€’ Proven experience in leading compensation modernization or talent redesign initiatives within universities or complex public sector organizations.

β€’ At least three similar completed client projects.

β€’ Demonstrated ability to create auditable, scenario-based financial and compensation models in Microsoft Excel.

β€’ Proficient in drafting administrative HR policies and governance frameworks.

β€’ Knowledgeable in modern performance management systems.

β€’ Outstanding communication and presentation abilities.

β€’ Experience leading discussions with executive leadership, steering committees, and decentralized institutional stakeholders.

β€’ Practical experience in integrating Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) principles into total rewards and talent practices.
