This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.
• Take charge of and enhance the company's legal function, policies, and legal processes.
• Serve as a strategic legal advisor to the founders and senior management.
• Create a scalable legal framework that supports the company's growth in various markets.
• Identify legal risks and offer practical, business-focused solutions.
• Coordinate with external legal counsel as necessary.
• Provide legal assistance across the company's payment operations and recurring payment model.
• Advise on relevant payment services, fintech, and financial services regulations.
• Support relationships and contractual frameworks with acquiring banks, PSPs, payment partners, and other financial institutions.
• Collaborate closely with Compliance and Risk teams on regulatory requirements, AML/KYC-related issues, and internal policies.
• Assist with licensing, regulatory applications, and expansion into new jurisdictions when applicable.
• Monitor regulatory changes pertinent to the business and convert them into actionable requirements.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with merchants, partners, vendors, and technology providers.
• Manage agreements with PSPs, acquirers, banks, and other partners in the payment ecosystem.
• Develop and standardize contract templates and contracting processes.
• Support Sales and Account Management teams during negotiations with key clients.
• Advise the business on contractual liability, termination, pricing structures, SLAs, disputes, and other commercial issues.
• Provide legal guidance regarding subscription-based business models and recurring billing.
• Assist in creating customer terms, merchant agreements, and payment-related policies.
• Offer advice on consumer protection, cancellation and refund policies, chargebacks, and recurring payment authorizations.
• Collaborate with Product and Commercial teams to ensure new payment flows and products are legally compliant and commercially viable.
• Advise on GDPR, privacy, data processing, and data-sharing arrangements.
• Review new products, integrations, and features from a legal and regulatory standpoint.
• Work closely with Product and Tech teams to integrate legal requirements into product development instead of addressing them post-launch.
• Support corporate governance and internal legal documentation.
• Manage the legal aspects of corporate structuring and international expansion.
• Assist with shareholder, investment, financing, and M&A-related matters as needed.
• Establish effective legal risk management and reporting processes.
• Strong legal background with extensive experience in fintech, payments, PSP, acquiring, payment gateways, or financial services.
• Comprehensive understanding of the European payments regulatory landscape.
• Experience dealing with commercial contracts in an international B2B context.
• Familiarity with recurring payments and subscription-based business models is a significant plus.
• Good knowledge of GDPR, consumer protection, and digital services regulations.
• Ability to work directly with founders and senior leadership.
• Strong commercial judgment—capable of explaining not only the legal risks but also how the business can proceed safely.
• Comfortable operating in a rapidly changing environment with a high level of ownership.
• Experience in building or scaling a legal function is a strong advantage.
• Fluent in English.
