Head of Legal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Take charge of daily legal operations and establish legal practices that support Allium's growth.

• Create and negotiate enterprise customer agreements, data licenses, partnerships, and vendor contracts.

• Collaborate with Sales and Finance to address contracting issues and facilitate deal closures.

• Define positions regarding data acquisition, permitted usage, redistribution, derived data, AI application, and post-termination rights.

• Ensure alignment between supplier rights and customer commitments.

• Provide guidance to Product and Engineering teams on privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory matters for new offerings.

• Design legal templates, negotiation playbooks, approval frameworks, intake processes, and a contract repository.

• Implement AI and automation solutions with confidentiality safeguards and human oversight.

• Oversee corporate governance, financing, employment issues, compliance, and any other legal requirements in collaboration with leadership and outside counsel.

• Prioritize tasks, manage specialist support, and oversee legal expenditures.

• Assist teams in understanding and fulfilling contractual and policy obligations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in independently leading complex commercial negotiations within a technology, SaaS, financial data, or similar sector.

• Proficiency in data licensing or technology transactions, covering IP rights, data usage, confidentiality, liability, indemnification, and privacy clauses.

• Experience providing direct advice to business teams, preferably in-house, and translating legal analysis into clear decisions and actionable alternatives.

• Proven history of developing or enhancing legal templates, playbooks, and processes.

• Strong writing and negotiation abilities.

• Capability to manage competing priorities, pay attention to details, and create structure while remaining engaged with the work.

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) or an equivalent legal qualification.

• Active membership in a U.S. state bar.

• Eligibility to practice in-house in the location of the role.

• Preferred: experience in a small legal team or in establishing a legal function.

• Preferred: knowledge of financial market data, fintech, payments, AI, or blockchain-related products.

• Preferred: experience selling to financial institutions or sophisticated enterprise clients.

• Preferred: background in privacy, product counseling, or public-sector contracting.
