Head of Engineering, Supply Chain

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the technical strategy and architecture for software related to inventory, logistics, and repair management.

• Oversee an engineering team of around 25 professionals, including managers, QA specialists, SRE, and Data Engineers.

• Propel the platformization of inventory and supply chain systems across millions of terminals.

• Create solutions that are operationally disciplined, bridging the gap between operational practices and software systems.

• Establish architectural standards, engineering processes, and quality metrics across different squads.

• Work in collaboration with business and operational stakeholders to convert requirements into engineering solutions.

• Recruit, mentor, and nurture engineering managers and senior engineers.

• Develop scalable inventory and logistics systems that serve millions of devices in various countries.

• Ensure operational data visibility and reliability across global markets.

⛳️ Requirements

• 10–15 years of comprehensive software engineering experience, including a minimum of 5 years in leading engineering teams through growth phases.

• At least 5 years of practical, production-level experience in writing and deploying Java code.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing other managers.

• Extensive hands-on experience with supply chain, inventory, warehouse, or logistics software at scale.

• Experience in fintech or within regulated industries.

• Strong backend engineering capabilities for data-intensive, distributed, operational systems.

• Demonstrated ability in system design at large scales, managing hundreds of thousands of devices or more.

• Proven track record in managing and developing large engineering teams consisting of 20 or more members.

• Exceptional stakeholder management skills.

• A product-focused mindset for addressing operational challenges with engineering solutions.
