This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee technical projects from initial concept through to launch.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address customer challenges.
• Establish a technical vision for managed teams and foster consensus on intricate matters.
• Supervise up to 8 software engineers across various projects.
• Offer coaching, mentorship, feedback, and manage performance.
• Conduct yearly performance evaluations and one-on-one meetings with direct reports.
• Design, architect, and implement new features for the Spellbook application.
• Set technical direction and establish Engineering OKRs.
• Define complex tasks, coordinate teams, and mitigate challenges.
• Utilize OpenAI, Anthropic, and other LLMs to enhance application capabilities.
• Work alongside product management on the React application.
• Enhance the Express and tRPC-based API.
• Boost performance, reliability, and address bugs based on user feedback.
• Assist with hiring and onboarding processes.
• Maintain engineering documentation, resources, and training materials in GitHub and Notion.
• Develop and enforce engineering best practices and workflows.
• Build and sustain AWS infrastructure utilizing AWS CDK.
• Conduct code reviews and deliver constructive feedback.
• Support additional responsibilities and projects as necessary.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Software Development.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate and advocate ideas to a diverse audience.
• Capability to evolve a product feature from a conceptual idea through beta implementation to production launch.
• Proven project management abilities across multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Self-motivated problem-solver driven by curiosity and a desire for continuous improvement.
• Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to enhancing team effectiveness.
• Solutions-driven approach to troubleshooting issues.
• Experience in providing mentorship, coaching, and constructive feedback.
• Track record in establishing technical direction and scaling an engineering organization.
• Strong understanding of software development and computer engineering principles.
• Ability to deconstruct complex customer requirements into manageable plans.
• Candidates must reside in Ontario.
• Must be legally authorized to work and live in Canada at the time of application.
• No relocation or visa sponsorship assistance available.
• Preferred qualifications: TypeScript; JavaScript build tools such as Vite, esbuild, and swc; experience in startups; AWS/CDK infrastructure; innovative product features; LLMs, prompt enhancement, and agent orchestration.
