Head of Engineering – Payment Gateway

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the complete technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify payment platform.

• Lead several engineering teams through engineering managers.

• Establish quality benchmarks and enhance organizational capabilities.

• Oversee developer experience, which includes APIs, documentation, SDKs, and ease of integration.

• Propel platform development towards multi-currency support and international scalability.

• Guarantee reliability, scalability, and security within a regulated framework.

• Collaborate with product, commercial, and operations teams to ensure alignment of technical investments with business objectives.

• Recruit, mentor, and nurture engineering managers and senior engineers.

• Direct payment infrastructure across Payment In, Payout, Commerce Tools, and features aimed at developers.

⛳️ Requirements

• More than 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• At least 5 years in leadership roles within engineering.

• Over 5 years of practical, production-level experience in writing and deploying Java.

• Minimum of 5 years managing other managers.

• Experience in payments, fintech, or financial services products.

• Familiarity with payment flows and compliance regulations.

• Extensive knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, and API integration.

• Demonstrated leadership of multiple engineering teams through managers in a growing organization.

• Strong backend engineering skills in high-throughput, distributed transactional systems.

• Experience in building or operating a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform is highly desirable.

• Proficient in technologies such as Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, microservices architecture, and AWS.
