Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the comprehensive technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify payment platform.

• Oversee several engineering teams through engineering managers.

• Establish quality standards and enhance organizational capabilities.

• Manage developer experience, encompassing APIs, documentation, SDKs, and ease of integration.

• Propel the platform's evolution towards multi-currency support and international scalability.

• Guarantee platform reliability, scalability, and security within a regulated environment.

• Collaborate with product, commercial, and operations teams to synchronize technical investments with business objectives.

• Recruit, mentor, and nurture engineering managers and senior engineers.

• Engage with Payment In, Payout, Commerce Tools, and features aimed at developers.

• Partake in recruiting efforts, including panel discussions, technical assessments, behavioral and technical interviews, and technical workshops as part of the hiring process.

⛳️ Requirements

• More than 10 years of software engineering experience, including a minimum of 5 years in engineering leadership positions.

• At least 5 years of practical, production-level experience in writing and deploying Java code.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing other managers.

• Background in payments, fintech, or financial services products, with a solid understanding of payment processes and compliance.

• Extensive knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, and API integration.

• Demonstrated leadership of multiple engineering teams through managers within a scaling organization.

• Strong backend engineering expertise in high-throughput, distributed transactional systems.

• Experience in developing or managing a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform is highly advantageous.

• Proficiency in Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, microservices architecture, and AWS.
