Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the complete technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify payment platform across all capability domains.

• Guide multiple engineering teams through engineering managers, establishing quality standards and enhancing organizational capabilities.

• Manage the developer experience from start to finish, which includes APIs, documentation, SDKs, and ease of integration.

• Propel platform advancement towards multi-currency support and international scalability.

• Guarantee platform reliability, scalability, and security within a regulated environment.

• Collaborate with product, commercial, and operations teams to ensure technical investments align with business objectives.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers.

• Engage in recruitment activities, including panel interviews, technical assessments, behavioral interviews, and technical workshops throughout the hiring process.

⛳️ Requirements

• More than 10 years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in leadership roles within engineering.

• Over 5 years of hands-on, production-level experience in writing and deploying Java code as a practicing engineer.

• At least 5 years of experience in managing managers.

• Background in payments, fintech, or financial services products, with a solid understanding of payment flows and compliance.

• Extensive knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, and API integration.

• Demonstrated leadership of multiple engineering teams through managers in a scaling organization.

• Strong backend engineering skills in high-throughput, distributed transactional systems.

• Experience in developing or managing a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform is highly advantageous.

• Familiarity with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, microservices architecture, and AWS.

• Proven track record of Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Systemization, Urgency, Ownership, No Ego, Candor, and Integrity.
