Head of Engineering – Payment Gateway

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the complete technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify platform across all capability domains.

• Guide several engineering teams through engineering managers, establishing quality benchmarks and enhancing organizational capabilities.

• Manage the entire developer experience, including APIs, documentation, SDKs, and ease of integration.

• Propel the platform's evolution towards multi-currency support and international scalability.

• Guarantee platform reliability, scalability, and security within a regulated environment.

• Collaborate with product, commercial, and operations teams to ensure that technical investments align with business objectives.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers to foster growth.

⛳️ Requirements

• More than 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• A minimum of 5 years in leadership roles within engineering.

• Over 5 years of practical, production-level experience in Java programming and deployment.

• At least 5 years of experience in managing managers.

• Background in payments, fintech, or financial services products.

• Familiarity with payment flows and compliance regulations.

• Extensive knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, and API integration.

• Demonstrated leadership of multiple engineering teams through managers in a growing organization.

• Strong backend engineering expertise in high-throughput, distributed transactional systems.

• Experience in developing or operating a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform is highly desirable.
