Head of Engineering – Payment Gateway

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the complete technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify payment platform across all functional areas.

• Guide multiple engineering teams through engineering managers, setting quality benchmarks and fostering organizational capability.

• Oversee the developer experience from start to finish, including APIs, documentation, SDKs, and ease of integration.

• Propel the platform's evolution towards multi-currency support and international scalability.

• Ensure the platform's reliability, scalability, and security within a regulated framework.

• Collaborate with product, commercial, and operations teams to synchronize technical investments with business objectives.

• Recruit, mentor, and cultivate engineering managers and senior engineers.

• Direct the technical trajectory of Payment In, Payout, Commerce Tools, and developer-oriented features.

⛳️ Requirements

• More than 10 years of software engineering experience, including a minimum of 5 years in leadership roles within engineering.

• Over 5 years of hands-on, production-level experience in writing and deploying Java code.

• At least 5 years of experience in managing other managers.

• Background in payments, fintech, or financial services products, with a solid understanding of payment flows and compliance.

• Profound knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, and API integration.

• Demonstrated leadership of multiple engineering teams through managers in a scaling organization.

• Strong backend engineering expertise in high-throughput, distributed transactional systems.

• Experience in building or operating a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform is a significant advantage.

• Familiarity with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, microservices architecture, and AWS.
