Head of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership to engineers across Product Engineering, Platform Engineering, and Corporate Engineering, nurturing technical excellence and fostering people development.

• Define, enhance, and ensure compliance with ROIT's engineering standards, encompassing architecture, security, scalability, maintainability, observability, and system support.

• Act as a technical reference for architectural and engineering decisions, advocating for best practices and maintaining consistency across teams.

• Offer technical mentorship, perform code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and assist in establishing seniority criteria, levels, and career advancement for engineers.

• Ensure knowledge redundancy for critical systems, mitigating risks tied to reliance on key individuals.

• Spearhead the recruitment and selection of Engineering professionals, engaging in technical interviews and practical evaluations.

• Direct the development of the Internal Platform as a Service, which includes identity and access management, multi-tenant architecture, deployment pipelines, Harness tools, and shared components.

• Collaborate closely with the Security team to define risk criteria and assess when internal solutions necessitate Engineering review.

• Engage actively in new strategic initiatives, assessing architecture, technology, and technical feasibility before the teams tasked with execution are assembled.

• Serve as the intermediary between Engineering and Business Unit owners, assisting in the negotiation of priorities, scope, capacity, and timelines.

• Drive and expedite the integration of Artificial Intelligence throughout the software development lifecycle, encouraging the effective use of tools and innovative working methods.

• Identify areas for improvement within the Engineering organization and propose solutions that enhance productivity, quality, and speed of delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in taking technical ownership of a complete product, platform, or value stream.

• Extensive experience in technical leadership, including mentoring, code reviews, standards definition, and providing technical direction to other engineers.

• Strong knowledge of distributed cloud systems, multi-tenant architecture, APIs, CI/CD, and application security.

• Practical experience in software architecture and development, while retaining the ability to engage in hands-on work.

• Regular use of Artificial Intelligence tools in software development, seamlessly integrating AI into the workflow.

• Capability to operate effectively in highly autonomous, ambiguous environments by structuring problems, defining scope, and making informed decisions.

• Systems-level thinking that balances technical quality, delivery speed, risks, and business requirements.

• Clear, concise, and assertive communication skills for collaboration with technical teams, leadership, and business stakeholders.

• Experience with tax, fiscal, or financial systems in Brazil is advantageous.

• Background in SaaS companies with multiple products built on a common platform is preferred.

• Familiarity with or practical experience using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a plus.

• Proficiency in Go, Node.js, or Python is a plus.

• Experience in developing or enhancing internal engineering platforms is a plus.

• Experience in fast-growth environments, technology transformation, or building products from the ground up is a plus.
