This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +5 more states.
• Define, own, and implement the long-term engineering strategy for the WEX Mobility Web Experience.
• Lead the development of web experiences pertaining to card management, vehicle management, mobility payments, and future web platform capabilities.
• Collaborate with architects and technical leaders on the technical vision and architecture of the web platform.
• Create and uphold the engineering roadmap that aligns with business priorities.
• Encourage innovation, continuous learning, collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence.
• Enhance engineering processes, improve delivery speed, quality, and developer productivity.
• Oversee complex cross-functional initiatives from planning to execution.
• Work with Product, UX, and business leaders to prioritize investments and deliver customer-focused web experiences.
• Establish and track engineering metrics to ensure predictability, quality, reliability, and team effectiveness.
• Facilitate sprint planning, roadmap reviews, operational assessments, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Define measurable objectives and key results in partnership with Product and business leaders.
• Advocate for reusable platforms, shared components, and engineering best practices across Mobility engineering teams.
• Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain engineering managers and software engineers.
• Offer coaching, performance feedback, and career development opportunities.
• Manage team capacity and staffing efficiently.
• Communicate strategy, progress, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering.
• At least 4 years of engineering management experience overseeing software engineering teams.
• Proven experience in leading modern, scalable web applications utilizing Angular or React and micro-frontend architectures.
• Strong grasp of single-page applications, micro-frontend patterns, application lifecycle management, and software engineering best practices.
• Excellent communication, organizational, stakeholder management, and decision-making abilities.
• Knowledge of security, privacy, authentication, authorization, and data protection principles relevant to web applications.
• Familiarity with automation, AI-assisted development tools, and engineering productivity practices.
• Experience in people leadership, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development.
• Capacity to lead through ambiguity, trade-offs, and organizational and technical changes.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leveraging analytics and customer insights for product and engineering decisions.
• Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Preferred: Background in shared web platforms, component libraries, reusable frameworks, or design systems.
• Preferred: Experience with distributed systems, CI/CD, automated testing, release automation, feature flags, web performance monitoring, observability, payment, fleet, FinTech, commercial card, payment networks, card schemes, and proprietary payment systems.
