This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Establish the editorial vision and strategy for Axios Live programming across various event formats.
• Ensure that Axios Live editorial outputs align with Axios’ editorial standards and the Smart Brevity style.
• Apply editorial judgment in dynamic news environments and adjust programming as news evolves.
• Lead and nurture the Axios Live editorial team, which includes editors, bookers, coverage leads, and the Managing Editor.
• Manage team structure, design roles, oversee performance management, and support career development.
• Cultivate a collaborative and high-performing culture that reflects Axios’ mission and values.
• Act as the main liaison to the wider newsroom.
• Collaborate with Communications to promote and enhance Axios Live events, expanding the brand, audience, and event impact.
• Direct copy editing and final editorial review of event scripts, moderator notes, speaker introductions, marketing copy, run-of-show materials, recap stories, social media content, and other audience-facing assets.
• Develop event concepts, programming arcs, and editorial structures for Axios events, summits, and larger hosted programs.
• Curate a diverse Axios Live programming portfolio that encompasses news, policy, and industry narratives.
• Work with Sales and Partnerships to create sponsored and branded programming while preserving editorial integrity.
• Contribute to strategic growth by exploring new formats, verticals, and revenue opportunities.
• Identify opportunities for AI, automation, and emerging tools across research, booking, production, and editorial workflows.
• Represent Axios Live both internally and externally, potentially speaking at live events.
• Integrate Booking and Coverage, including securing newsmakers and influencers, event language, recaps, live-tweeting, and post-event content.
• Coordinate editorial, events, sales, and partnerships to ensure programming is both editorially sound and commercially appealing.
• 12 - 15+ years of journalism or editorial experience, with substantial experience in leading teams and managing complex editorial operations.
• Significant experience in live news, events, TV or video production, or related fields.
• Proven track record of working within, or in close collaboration with, a newsroom and building strong cross-functional relationships.
• Exceptional writing, copy editing, and research skills, with a sharp attention to detail, strong news judgment, and storytelling capabilities.
• In-depth knowledge of digital and social media landscapes and the ways news disseminates across platforms.
• Strong comprehension of Axios’ Smart Brevity style, with the ability to teach and maintain it across the team.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and scale editorial teams, including management and senior individual contributors.
• Capacity to perform in high-pressure environments, meet stringent deadlines, and make calm and sound decisions under stress.
• An extensive network of senior leaders, policymakers, CEOs, and other influential newsmakers, along with the capability to scout, pitch, and book editorially sound guests for significant onstage appearances.
• Awareness of how editorial excellence supports business objectives, including sponsorships, partnerships, and ticket sales.
• Willingness to travel for major events and activations, which may include Davos, Cannes Lions, SXSW, CES, Climate Week, and political conventions.
• Experience with video editing, live production, or broadcasting is advantageous.
• Background in media, policy, Capitol Hill, or political campaigns is also beneficial.
• Ability to actively cultivate AI literacy and leverage AI tools to boost productivity, creativity, and efficiency.
