This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Identify and engage with authors and book proposals that align with the publishing vision and strategic goals of the product line.

• Act as the main point of contact for incoming proposal submissions, providing responses to authors and literary agents.

• Generate original book concepts and pitch ideas to potential authors.

• Assess proposals for theological consistency, market potential, and suitability for the product line.

• Prepare and deliver proposals during Pub Board meetings.

• Draft deal point memos that summarize essential terms and justify acquisitions.

• Negotiate contract terms with authors and literary agents in accordance with publishing standards.

• Review chapter outlines, sample chapters, and complete manuscripts for organization, clarity, concept, style, and readability.

• Support authors in enhancing their written work.

• Ensure that published content maintains theological accuracy and aligns with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

• Advocate for acquired titles at sales conferences and work collaboratively with Marketing and Production teams.

• Track production schedules and budgets for assigned titles, making adjustments to plans in coordination with the broader team as necessary.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Theological Studies, or a related field is required.

• An M.Div or MA in English, Communications, Journalism, Theological Studies, or a related field is required.

• Ability to build relationships with authors, literary agents, and ministry contacts.

• Experience in evaluating manuscripts and proposals for theological accuracy, market potential, and editorial compatibility.

• Strong critical thinking and editing skills applied to structure, clarity, and readability.

• Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS).

• Knowledge of the Society of Biblical Literature style guide (SBL).

• Experience in contract review and a foundational understanding of licensing and rights administration.

• Proficient in reporting and documentation practices for deal memos and contract records.

• Willingness to travel 4-6 times a year for team meetings and events.

• Active involvement in an evangelical Christian church.

• Previous experience in a ministry, denominational, or church-related context is preferred.

• Familiarity with biblical Greek or Hebrew is preferred.

• Experience in co-writing or ghostwriting is preferred.

• Knowledge of the SBC and Baptist Faith and Message 2000 is preferred.

• A PhD or being in progress towards a PhD is strongly preferred.
