Head of Business Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the company's operating rhythm, which includes weekly schedules, action registers, decision logs, cross-functional follow-ups, and escalations.

• Develop and maintain ongoing operational reports and management packs for the Founder/CEO.

• Monitor KPIs, variances, root causes, responsible parties, corrective actions, deadlines, recovery statuses, blockers, and necessary decisions.

• Ensure that any KPI misses have recovery plans led by accountable functional owners.

• Hold functional owners accountable across various departments: Retail, Ecommerce, Warehouse, HR Operations, Finance, Creative/Brand, Marketing, Buying, Merchandising, Production, Business Development, and external partners.

• Identify operational failures related to infrastructure, ownership, capacity, capability, management behavior, processes, systems, training, and performance.

• Implement Build / QA / Own discipline for recurring tasks.

• Oversee organizational capacity, productivity, and business continuity.

• Manage the rhythm of inventory-accuracy and challenge inventory controls.

• Provide operational assurance for ecommerce fulfillment, warehouse operations, and retail dependencies.

• Direct HR Operations rhythm, which includes recruitment administration, onboarding, offboarding, probation control, and manager HR actions.

• Govern Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operational standards.

• Manage technology priorities from an operational and business viewpoint.

• Collaborate with Business Systems & Technology Operations regarding requirements, vendors, implementation, integrations, migration, UAT, rollout, documentation, and access infrastructure.

• Ensure an effective IT/technology-support operating model across UK and international teams.

• Lead recovery efforts when plans falter through evidence review, resetting plans, accountability, escalation, and follow-through.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in senior business operations, operating-system leadership, or operations integration.

• Significant experience in dynamic omnichannel retail, ecommerce, consumer, grocery, or similar multi-site operations.

• Experience in managing managers or establishing credible authority among experienced functional owners.

• Proven ability to build an operating cadence across multiple teams or functions.

• Experience in creating KPI rhythms that enhance outcomes.

• Experience preparing reporting for the CEO/senior management that leads to decisive actions and recovery initiatives.

• Ability to resolve cross-functional issues with an owner/action/deadline/evidence approach.

• Experience in reducing reliance on founders, CEOs, or senior leaders.

• Proficient in diagnosing issues related to infrastructure, capability, ownership, processes, systems, capacity, and performance.

• Fluent in inventory management, including accuracy, receiving, put-away, stocktakes, transfers, discrepancies, faulty stock, and inventory-system controls.

• Experience in enhancing operational outcomes through systems, dashboards, automation, AI, SOPs, or workflow redesign.

• Strong commercial acumen concerning stock, stores, customers, fulfillment, costs, service, and operational risks.

• Capable of leading distributed teams and staying informed without being physically present.

• Structured yet not bureaucratic, commercially aware, systems-oriented, AI-capable, calm under pressure, direct with managers, and able to escalate with options and recommendations.

• Ability to work fully within UK business hours, Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 5:30 pm UK time.
