Hausa Interpreter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Manage on-demand phone interpreting sessions between speakers of Hausa and English

• Provide precise meanings and concepts in accordance with established interpretation guidelines

• Interpret across various sectors including healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel and hospitality, business, law enforcement, court, and 911 services

• Communicate clearly in both languages with accurate pronunciation, enunciation, and courteous expressions

• Uphold a professional demeanor throughout all interpreting sessions

• Maintain composure during challenging or emergency calls, including those made to 911

• Ensure punctuality and availability during designated work hours

• Adhere to client directives and interpretation protocols

• Employ suitable terminology and comprehend procedures across multiple industries

• Exhibit cultural sensitivity in a diverse work environment

• Operate from a quiet, secure home office and manage potentially emotional, stressful, or high-volume calls

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in both Hausa and English with a strong understanding of cultural nuances

• Capability to provide cultural competency and recognize regional and accent variations

• Exceptional listening, retention, and note-taking abilities

• Ability to maintain neutrality and objectivity during sensitive discussions

• Preferred education or experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation

• Adaptability to LanguageLine Solutions technology improvements

• Must be 18 years or older

• Legally authorized to work in the United States

• Must possess work authorization that does not currently or in the future require visa sponsorship

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Proficiency in reading and writing the requested languages is highly preferred

• Personal device dedicated to business purposes

• Desktop or laptop computer with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS, or an acceptable tablet/smartphone

• Exclusion of Kaspersky products or Huawei hardware

• Internet connection with a minimum of 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload, a ping of no more than 300 ms, and jitter not exceeding 30 ms

• Quiet environment free from background noise or distractions

• Ability to operate a keyboard and mouse while remaining stationary in front of a computer for most of the workday

• Capability to utilize company-provided software and systems

• Adequate manual dexterity for typing or writing

• Ability to lift up to 26 lbs

• Must be able to work in environments with moderate noise levels

• A post-offer pre-employment background check and/or drug screening may be required based on location
