Geographic Information System Support

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist in the overall management and execution of environmental GIS programs.

• Support Federal personnel in the design, development, integrity, and archiving of environmental GIS databases.

• Integrate data from various sources including shapefiles, GPS, geophysical data, field measurements and notes, hard-copy maps, and tables.

• Facilitate the transfer of GIS data between contractors and federal agencies.

• Design, produce, and output both hard- and soft-copy maps that depict protected species locations/densities, anthropogenic threats, and oceanographic features.

• Define data requirements for geospatial projects and address complex geospatial and GIS challenges.

• Calculate and assess cumulative environmental impacts.

• Perform 3D/spatial analysis and geospatial modeling.

• Convert raw data into code, identify data interrelations, apply geographic data layers, and rectify coding discrepancies.

• Design, develop, and manage geospatial databases, converting both digital and analog source data.

• Establish and implement quality-control and quality-assurance protocols for geospatial data initiatives.

• Provide technical support to users for geospatial data and software.

• Assist in the development of statewide standards and applications.

• Coordinate projects involving data capture/analysis and geospatial applications.

• Integrate GIS resource data into planning documents and processes.

• Incorporate Enterprise GIS into both long-term and short-term planning and management operations.

• Recommend improvements to localized procedures and methodologies.

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Occasional travel to meetings or workshops may be required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in GIS, Geography, Cartography, Earth Science, Computer Science, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Fisheries, or a related field, along with four (4) or more years of relevant experience in the GIS domain.

• A Master’s degree in a related discipline may be accepted in lieu of two (2) years of demonstrated experience.

• Familiarity with GIS principles, terminology, and methodologies.

• Proficient in advanced cartographic and spatial analysis techniques.

• Ability to work independently with meticulous attention to detail.

• Proficiency in working with geodatabases, relational databases, and geometric networks.

• Capability to build web maps and applications.

• Skill in analyzing GIS requests and designing suitable products.

• Competence in identifying and acquiring current datasets.

• Ability to manage data holdings in a systematic manner.

• Familiarity with the Google Suite of productivity tools.

• Capability to work effectively both individually and collaboratively within a team setting.

• A cover letter is required with the resume.

• Work authorization in the United States and successful completion of a federal government background check is mandatory.
