This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Execute programming related to the geophysics workforce and its products.

• Identify and recruit potential geophysicists, enhance their skills, retain them, and strengthen the geophysics and geoscience workforce.

• Ensure that workforce programming meets the requirements of all stakeholders involved.

• Develop recruitment strategies aimed at promoting workforce development programs and attracting qualified candidates.

• Implement established processes for the evaluation of workforce programming and its products.

• Collaborate with partner organizations to further geoscience and geophysics workforce objectives.

• Assist in preparing publications that document workforce projects and their impacts.

• Support students, lead workforce initiatives, and present outcomes at conferences.

• Facilitate connections for internship alumni via an active alumni network.

• Maintain an online presence for workforce-related activities.

• Deliver programming for early-career geoscientists/geophysicists in collaboration with partner organizations.

• Work with the communications team to effectively convey initiatives, events, and progress.

• Provide managerial guidance to interns and volunteers.

• Assist with the RESESS and GLP internship programs, including participant recruitment, application processes, communications, and onboarding.

• Contribute to the operational aspects of internships, such as travel arrangements, payments, professional development, and evaluations.

• Maintain records of participants and help facilitate connections to future opportunities.

• Engage in additional workforce programming, including Career internship, Field School 1, Field School 3, and initiatives for early-career faculty.

• Represent workforce programs at conferences, meetings, and recruitment events.

• Foster a respectful professional culture through interactions with staff, the community, and partner organizations.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required.

• Applicants must be legally authorized to work and reside physically within the 50 United States.

• Applicants MUST have permanent authorization to work in the United States.

• A cover letter must accompany the resume during application.

• Experience in supporting initiatives that help students develop practical skills is essential.

• Proficiency with the Google suite of tools is necessary.

• Strong skills in spreadsheet and data management are required.

• Ability to coordinate schedules, communications, and logistics across multiple stakeholders is crucial.

• Familiarity with project implementation, data collection, reporting activities, or budget tracking is important.

• Experience in conducting scientific research is needed.

• Background in supporting a diverse range of program participants is preferred.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Ability to present to diverse audiences and translate scientific concepts for non-scientific audiences is required.

• Capacity to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively is necessary.

• Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems is beneficial.

• Knowledge of geophysics or geosciences is preferred.

• Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret numerical data is essential.

• Availability consistent with EarthScope established practices and norms; hours may exceed 40 per week, especially during travel.

• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time is required.

• A Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent in geosciences or a related field is preferred.

• Bilingualism, particularly in Spanish, is highly desired (preferred).

• Participation in a science internship as a student is preferred.
