FX Artist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and execute high-quality FX simulations, including fluids, smoke, fire, dust, explosions, and particle effects across various shots and sequences.

• Create and enhance FX setups and toolsets utilizing Houdini and other industry-standard software.

• Generate realistic simulations for pyro, smoke, rigid bodies, and destruction effects.

• Collaborate with artists, Leads, and Supervisors to address intricate visual and technical challenges.

• Ensure continuity across shots and meet creative, technical, and production standards in FX work.

• Diagnose and rectify FX setups while delivering organized and efficient scene files.

• Engage in review processes and integrate feedback from Leads and Supervisors.

• Keep updated with the latest FX techniques, workflows, and tools, and apply new methodologies when suitable.

• Incorporate upstream assets, materials, and additional components into Houdini.

• Streamline Houdini scenes and node graphs for effective and dependable workflows.

• Assist in lighting and creative look development for FX elements as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3–5+ years of experience in the VFX or film production sector.

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with dynamics and simulations in Houdini.

• Solid understanding of fluid dynamics, particle behavior, collisions, and real-world physics.

• Experience with pyro, smoke, rigid body, destruction, and particle simulations.

• Strong artistic sensibility coupled with effective technical problem-solving abilities.

• Familiarity with shaders, lighting, and rendering for FX elements.

• Experience in importing upstream assets and applying materials within Houdini.

• Knowledge of asset layout and optimization of scenes and node graphs in Houdini.

• Familiarity with Arnold is highly preferred.

• Knowledge of VEX and/or Python is a plus.

• Understanding of VFX production pipelines in television and episodic formats.

• A demo reel showcasing strong FX work and comprehension of real-world physics.

• Legally authorized to work in Canada and a resident of Canada.
